Smart Link Problem solved.(see here)

Featured Replies

Yippee! and me a complete numpty on phones.

Found on tinternet what my problem was with my Huawei P9 Lite as it wouldn't connect. I was so disappointed when so many said some Huawei phones were not compatible. I thought I was going to have to sell my phone which I bought only last month.

I went into settings and found how to 'become a developer' then  I could access 'Developer Options' Once in there it was a simple matter of turning on the USB De Bugging option and Hey Presto!!

Works great on Google maps. I tried Waze and it was searching for a route for ages so came off that as Google Maps are instant.

A huge thank you to all who offered their advice on my previous thread.

Sweet !

added bonus hope you enjoy your new car and keep us with an update on you views when you've had a chance to become better acquainted

Nice work Harry.

Will try it on my non-connecting Huawei,

Had to look on youtube to find out how to access the developer tools option, but sorted now.

Not yet tried it on the car.

If this works you have sorted out a problem that many tech geeks have failed to do.

Harry you may be about to become a Tech guru.

Yes I've often been referred to as a Tech Guru but always sarcastically:dry: !  Hope it works for you, do let us know.

Now you've got it working, I'd recommend downloading the areas you drive in most on Google Maps. Touch the three lines in the search bar (Menu/'hamburger' icon), then Offline Maps> Select your own map

Saves a lot on the data!

Thank you for that I'll give it a go.

Didn't work on my P8 lite. No worries, i'm not that fussed about it anyhow.

The phone connects ok  via bluetooth and I can use the mapping by hanging the phone from a dashboard mount.

Worth a try though.

Oh that's a pity, I was so hoping you'd have the same experience as I did. Anyway worth a go as you say.

I've downloaded a couple and will gradually do more. Mi phone is constantly within reach of my wi-fi so they should update without me losing them

Is this a daft question, how do I use my own maps when coupled to AA so it's not using data. Do I have to do anything?

No, If your data is off.

Thanks AG Falco

I'd keep data on, because it'll give you better routing. It often routes me in totally different ways depending on traffic, and it can only do that if you have data on. But if you've saved the area, then it'll use less data because of the map already being on the phone. I use it all the time, even on routes I know, purely for the traffic information. So far this month I've used 161MB of data on maps, I'm sure it would be a lot more if I didn't have the map downloaded.
