Missing SD card

Featured Replies

Need some advice here. Went to drive the Black Edition Fabia yesterday, beautiful little car but there are two items I need advice on please.

The Amundsen system has no sd card in the slot which I believe is required to update/operate the sat nav.

My system is this  shown and I believe its called the Amundsen+   which I think is classified as  (RNS315).

Can I purchase this SD card and be guaranteed it'll work?

Thank you in advance, any info would be appreciated.

Your unit is an Amundsen, not an Amundsen +. They look the same but are very different, the Amundsen is based on the RNS310 and the Amundsen + is based on the RNS315.

Maps for your unit as you say will need to be in the unit for it to work, but the maps are specific to the Amundsen, and the Amundsen + maps won't work.

Thanks for that Rusty. This has given me a solid headache since I first saw the car. How can you tell which is the Amundsen or the Amundsen+.

Amundsen + has  "Amundsen + " printed on the front fascia where yours only has "Amundsen". Also, the Amundsen + unit stores the maps on the internal memory so sat nav will work without the sd card in it. Did you try the sat nav?

Briefly tried the sat nav, entered postcode for London and up it popped without SD card being present, I'm in West Yorkshire and was pleased it worked but got puzzled as there was no SD card. Naturally Skoda dealers want an arm and a leg and a little more for a SD card but I've seen on Ebay for about £30-£40.

So you tried the sat nav and it worked? Perhaps there was a cd in the drive which can also hold the data for mapping.

Just to clarify, the pic you posted is the actual system in the car which you took a picture of?

Hi Rusty, no, that is not the actual unit in my car, I copied that from the net assuming it'll be the same. Never thought about a CD.

Ah. In that case you might well have an Amundsen + unit and the maps will be saved internally.

Thanks Rusty. Hopefully I'll collect the car next week and post a picture of actual unit. It's difficult to actually know what infotainment system slung in their cars. Their website is effing useless.

Thank you for all.

If it is a Amundsen + (RNS 315) then the maps are stored on the unit. However they may be out of date and you would still need an SD card if you wanted to update them. To be sure, when you get the car, Press and hold setup for 10 seconds, select versions. Amundsen (RNS 310)  will have 3 data lines "part number" "software versions" "system hardware version". The Amundsen + (RNS 315) it will have an extra 2 data lines "Navigation data: part number" and "Navigation data: version". Option 5 "Navigation data: version will tell you how up to date the maps are. I think the newest is V9 or 10. There was some issue with V10, but I don't know if it was rectified.

I hope that helps, good luck with the new motor.
