Lost superb keys ... I'm an idiot!!!

Featured Replies

Ok so I went over to my mother's to build her a fence.

At some point I managed to lose my key... 4 of us spent an hour searching but found nothing!

Even better news is the wife's spare key is also inside the car!

So before I go smashing a window or getting raped by a mobile locksmith, does anyone have any suggestions?

Am honestly surprised I was able to lock the spare key in the car .. last couple of cars ive had have refused to lock when they detected another key within the car

Do you have a third key?

If you can do without the car for a day or so Skoda dealer for a new key - unless you find it you will want to replace the missing one and decode it from the car anyway.

Is there anyone nearby with a metal detector that could check all the area where you've been working to see if it can be found?

No third key, and I'll be ringing local dealer this morning.

I did toy with the idea of buying a metal detector..... Let's see how much Skoda can charge for a new key...  Assuming they have records of every cars lock!

I thought the keys themselves come as blanks, and you need to have the original to get one cut?  As for programming, don't they need to connect to the car's Diag port to code it?

They may be able to do it via the VIN of your car though.  I know a normal auto electrician was gonna charge my dad £120 for coding a new key as his stopped working.  I guess Skoda would at least double that (but you might be pleasantly surprised)

Let's hope it's easier than Volvo.

I once bought a spare key for a Volvo I used to have as I bought it sexong hand and it only came with 1 key. I thought I'd buy a second for resilience.

Had to be programmed in Sweden then sent to the dealer/approved specialist.

£550!

Needless to say my Volvo only had the one key.

Panic over... Mother just rang to say she found the key.... In the bin!

Probably the only place we didn't check!

I'm getting old and senile it would appear ha

Still daft how my crappy old hyundai wouldn't allow a key to be locked inside but the superb does!

Good to hear u found them.

Other cars will not lock if there is a set of keys left inside the car, but I've noticed with the mk3 superb it will let u lock the car with a set of keys inside as long as u have a set on u outside the car.

Sometimes my wife would leave her handbag (with her key) inside, and I can lock the car and walkaway with no issues.

Pleased to hear this is sorted Winterwolf. Does your car have KESSY? I've seen stuff on here about not being able to lock a KESSY car with a fob inside but never tried personally.

Mine does - at least since Gizmo did the VCDS to auto lock on closing the doors. I had left the key in my bag rather than my pocket for a change and closed the door to hear it locking. My heart sank. Though fortunately it opened too as if the key was outside the car. On reflection, I guess this is to be expected. But I'd better be careful about leaving a key in a bag in the car otherwise anyone could unlock it and drive off. If I'm travelling, I usually have the spare in with my passport in a shoulder bag. Not sure what would happen if I lock the car as normal with the main key on my person, whilst leaving a bag with the spare inside the car. Note to self: I had better check this before we next go away.

Not tried to actually lock a key in the car but I did have my kessy key in my bag yesterday. Opened the boot put the bag in and shut it. Went to open the door and it wouldn't open, but when I went back to the boot it had unlatched itself.  I'm assuming kessy won't allow you to lock the car if there is a key inside.

I know my wife's qashqai doesn't.

No KESSY unfourtunatly .... Will just be a lot more careful now to make sure the wifes bag with the key inside is never left in there :)

Side note, the Ford Kuga I borrowed sounded like a bag of spanners compared to my superb .. Makes you appreciate how quiet our cars are :)

Good news.  Any pics of the fence?

Glad you got it sorted @Winterwolf

Mine is KESSY.

I'm able to lock keys inside as long as I have a key with me.

A non kessy car will allow you to lock a spare key in the car...

Although SWMBO's never driven a car, she always take the spare car key, unless we're only in town just in case anything happens to mine.  It's also useful to have as we sometimes go different ways and she can sit and wait in the car if she's first back (not that it ever happens if we're anywhere near shops).

As her key's in her handbag, she'll never leave it in the car.  I never leave anything on view in the car anyway as it's too quick and easy for an opportunist to smash a window, grab whatever's there and be running away in seconds.

Did a similar thing clearing the garden last year. Panic set in, retraced footsteps etc. Eventually keys found an hour later next to bin.

Best get the pics of the garden posted straight away before @penguin17 gets here:biggrin:

With a normal key, then easy to lock a set of keys in any car using another key.

On the Superb, if you locked the car, threw your keys into the boot and then closed the boot.... it would be locked in there unless you had KESSY. The car can detect the KESSY key.
