Emissions

Featured Replies

I notice that the EU6 figure for the Karoq diesel has a W at the end so it reads EU6W.  What  does the W mean, my current Octavia just has EU6

My local Skoda garage don't know.

From what I have seen, I think EU6 and EU6W are the same standard. They are now adding letters to "EU6" to separate the cars tested under the old and discredited NEDC tests from those tested and certified under the new and hopefully more realistic WLTP - RDE tests (WLTP = World Harmonised Light Vehicle Testing Procedure and RDE = Real Driving Emissions).

EU6W are EU6 cars tested  under the NEDC cycle (NEDC = New European Driving Cycle from 1997).

EU6ZD are new models introduced since July 2017 that have WLTP approvals prior to those becoming mandatory in Sept 2018.

EU6AD,  later EU6AJ, will be the ones used for cars that are tested and certified from September this year, which must be done under WLTP or they cant be sold.

Thanks for that TheRobinK.  I am delighted to see that it remains complicated.  What I find most irritating about the whole emission affair is the penalties paid by new diesel owners, and little or no interest being paid to the older diesels, lorries, buses, taxis, generators.  It is interesting to note that on the WLPT website it states that transport in general only contributes 20% of pollution the other 80% is from house heating and others.  No mention of aircraft i notice, but these are of course the travel method of the rich and famous and politicians.

Ryanair, Wizzair, Jet 2.

Hardly needing to be rich and famous to travel from country to country for under £40.

Those that do not travel do suffer the pollution of those that do though, but then goods need transported, because no transport no employment, and no vehicles needed if you have no work.   Horses should be brought back as transport, the by product can be used to grow your own food.

Cattle are nice for food, but they are very polluting animals,  more Catalytic Converters required for strapping to the backend of cows.

Get on a train now and pay £100 for a single ticket for a journey that might cost half that in fuel and 5 people could be in the vehicle or more,

trains journeys are expensive.

Disappointing also that the new level of first year tax kindly applied by the Chancellor from April only applied to cars. Obviously didn't want to P--s off white van man!!!!!!!, but didn't care less at P-----g off  diesel car drivers. I've voted Tory all my life, but no more. I couldn't vote for the others either so probably just decline next time around. Read the other day that it would take something like 43 million diesel cars to match the NoX emissions of one coal fired power station. We have a Karoq diesel and an Octavia Scout diesel on order. Taken 5 year warranty on both, so conforming with emissions is covered by warranty until 2023 and by then I'll be 74, electrics will be more affordable and we'll only need one car.

Phillip seemed to think that not affecting white van man / woman was a great quip as he made his announcement, but then forgets that they might drive Cars not vans doing deliveries, or drive to work in cars.

What is also really annoying is the fact that should you buy a Range Rover PHEV which has a 286 bhp petrol engine and an electrical motor which can only do 30 miles and cannot be charged by the engine. So  after you have done 30 miles  or so on a long journey to Scotland  200 plus miles  of the rest you are emitting nearly twice the amount of CO2 than I will be in my Karok 4x4 diesel DSG but only pay £25 first year VED when mine is £515.  The whole thing is a farce.

At least you knew about the farce before going along with it.

Yes I did, but me knowing does'nt make it a fair way to charge people for emissions.  Given the choice I would have bought a Toyota Landcruiser Invincible with a winch and snorkle for off roading and recovery work in the Welsh hills
