repeated Bulb out warnings

Featured Replies

My Yeti is 3 3/4 years old and is fast approaching 68 k miles. Not sure why but over the last few weeks I've had a number of bulb out warnings appearing on the Maxidot.

On every occasion I've found the respective bulb to be out (both fog lights, both rear side lights and most recently daylight running light) but on each occasion they have responded well to a firm tap (and have re-lit).

Could this relate to the weather becoming warmer, or am I in for a host of bulb replacements?

Not looking forward to the day light driving light replacement, as my hands won't fit:sweat:

New bulbs could be the answer as could taking out the bulbs, cleaning the bulb and socket contacts then smearing contacts with a dielectric grease before reinserting.

Bulbs that are still working but nearing failure change resistance and can trigger the warning light as well.

When a bulb goes out and works again after a tap the filament has just reconnected this gives the bulb a different resistance. That or the conection to the bulb is corroded or dirty.

Is there a common earth point that might need cleaning/retightening?........(after checking the battery terminals of course)

Battery terminal (s) are clean and smeared with vaseline.

I was called little concerned by the variety of different bulbs throwing up an error.

Not adverse to swopping bulbs ( I've replaced all interior builds with LED some time ago) just not looking forward to changing the DRL bulb.

It might just be one of those issues that disappears with a new battery.

Battery is all good - recently load tested at a local motor factors (who dearly wanted to sell me another one:biggrin:).

The battery on my old Mk1 1.8 T 4x4 Octavia lasted 12 years before giving up, so definitely hoping to see more than 3 1/2 years out of the battery on my current Yeti (I realise Diesels are especially hard on batteries, but yet to replace one on a car so new).

We seem to drive ‘voltage ‘ sensitive cars these days.......if not a simple earthing issue that is.
