Enabling High Beam Assist issues OBDeleven

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New to Skoda MY17 Octavia RS 230 owner here trying to do some coding with OBDeleven to enable high beam assist.

Initially I used the automatic coding app offered, but it failed. Following the failed message, the light assist option still appeared in my car's infotainment, however trying to enable HBA using the left stalk resulted in a 'failure: high beam assist' message. It appears the app made changes, but not all of them. To make matters worse, the app now reports 'not supported' when I go into it, so I can't just select 'off' to roll back the changes it made.

So anyway, I've moved on to trying to do the coding manually with little success.

I've followed the following steps https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/299424-octavia-iii-vcds-adaptations-tried-and-tested/?page=2#comment-3821291

and also as per another thread on here with a failure error, went into control unit 55 and selected basic headlamp setting/acknowledge basic setting.

No luck at all, always the same 'failure: high beam assist' message. I feel like the OBDeleven app has changed something, but because it was one of the apps it doesn't show any detail of the changes in the history tab...

Anyone have any pointers as to what else I may need to change to get this working?

Did you try to undo through the app before or after making manual changes? I've noticed that it reports "not supported" if the expected current coding differs from its preconditions. For example, I coded in LED number plate lights through the app and right after that, I made changes to the dimming settings. "Not supported" appeared until I changed the dimming setting back to the one the app had coded.

If the app coding itself resulted in "not supported", it probably failed to code something in and you should ask OBDeleven support about it.

My first thought was to try and undo through the app too, however it seems the app coding itself caused the 'not supported' error, as right after the failure it started saying not supported, which means it won't let me select 'off' and reverse the changes.

Have emailed OBDeleven support, hopefully they can shed some light on what changes the app may have made...

I believe there have been major changes to the coding on the Facelift cars.

The apps are written for the prefacelift which maybe the issue.

Hi Lee,

mine is 2016 build/MY17 pre-facelift.

cheers

Try clearing the errors

shut everything down and restart

worked for me

Can anybody advise whether the OBDeleven App to enable HBA is working on 2018 RS 245 models.  I have the OBDeleven device and the App shows up, just wondering of it's working before I spend 100 credits on it?

Edit:  mine fully optioned with Tech and Lux packs.

Did you reset your light settings to factory default after making changes?

So did you manage to fix it ??

I have the MY19 VRS, I wont be using the apps to change anything as I have seen the instructions to do it manually and whilst there are a few changes I dont trust the app not to mess it up. Seems not a lot of testing has been done since apps were ported over into the facelift models.

Im due to give it a go tomorrow using adaptations and manuals. It might be safer to work that out than let the app loose.

A few people have advised against the apps but in personal experience I have seen an app make an odd change to my friends RS4, where he ended up losing the comfort opening/closing on his windows. He has a backup of his modules but it will take a little work to find out exactly what happened!

I did! Was working for quite a while.

A few months later I reverted all my changes as the car was going to the dealer for some work, and unfortunately I’m back to square one, I can’t remember what I did to make it work the first time so I’m now stuck with the same error again :(

I don't believe the app will work with a MY18 car as there have been changes. I have successfully coded my 18MY car with OBDEleven but doing it via adaptations/long coding.

Alright so I finally managed to enable HBA on my car again using my OBDEleven.

I actually have no idea what did it in the end as I feel like the changes I made were the same ones that I was making every time I tried, but I'll list them below In the exact order I did them (don't think order is important but like I said I'm not sure why it suddenly started working, so it could be) in case it helps someone else in this situation.

For reference, my car is a 2016 build MY17 Octavia RS 230 - the Pre-facelift limited edition. It has bi-xenon headlights, lux and tech packs.

Long coding

Control unit: 09 Central Electrics

 Erweiterte_Fernlichtsteuerung:

New value: AFS, FLA, BCM-Fernlicht

Adaptation

            Old value: Not present
            New value: Present

    Old value:

    New value:

    Name: Assistance light functions
    Values:
        Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent:

            New value: Present

I then factory reset the light settings in the car menu on the entertainment screen. I also scanned for errors - there was none In my case but I have read that clearing them has helped some people in getting this working.
