Central locking/car alarm following minor accident

Featured Replies

Hi folks

A neighbour recently drove too close to my Octavia Ambiente 1.9 diesel (2006 plate) catching the passenger-side wing mirror. For some reason it didn't flip in.

Instead it made the door push against the entire car frame, thereby introducing a 30cm crack in the windscreen right at that spot. The wing mirror itself escaped with its paint scratched off at the tip. No other damage from what I can see to the car.

I got the windscreen replaced but a few things have happened:

  1. The central locking and electric window on the passenger side initially wouldn't work. If I locked all the doors via the fob, the passenger side door would do nothing, so would stay open if it was already open, or stay locked if it was already locked.
  2. This fixed itself magically (locking AND the mirror now work fine), but now when I use central locking when leaving the car, the alarm has a habit of randomly going off after a few hours.

Anybody got any ideas what might be wrong? I have little experience in car mechanics but know a little about electronics.

Remedial steps tried so far: I removed the wing mirror cowling and checked the wires for signs of damage. Not taught. They seem fine. I tried to remove the door panel but couldn't figure out how (instructions online are for different models). But I did remove the controls for the window, which exposed some wires. Again, no sign of damage or taughtness.
