The tailgate design is different between the pre-FL and FL.

 

On my pre-FL the release buttons are on the base of the tailgate, you can just see one of them to the left of my picture. On your FL they moved them up to above the number plate.

 

That would explain the design change. Hopefully they improved the drainage when they redesigned the boot lid?
