Octavia boot release - half works!

Featured Replies

Anyone experienced this problem. it's been with me since I bought car (4 months or so).

I use remote to release boot lid and it springs up 1 inch.

So far so good.

Put fingers under lid and exert a little pressure . Lid resists strongly and stops until I exert full pressure to free something catching.

Annoying thing is that you can't see problem area until the boots up and problem's gone.

Very grateful for help in forming solution.

No. Bearing in mind I and others fitted some relatively light die springs onto the boot lifter pistons to make the boot pop fully up when the button is pressed, i'd say there definitely shouldn't be any sort of resistance.

You only get a second or so to catch the boot when it initially pops up, otherwise it drops back onto the latch, and then you should be using the boot release button to open it. If you're lifting it up without hitting the button on the boot itself and having to apply a lot of force I can't imagine you're doing it much good.

For what it's worth though, I almost never use the boot release button as there's a risk of ending up with the keys locked in the boot if you put them down in the boot for a second and forget, then close the boot and the car automatically re-locks itself.

Thanks for contributions.

Yes I've got it all wrong. I have a friend with a Passat who uses his remote and his boot slowly but surely lifts to its highest position. I thought the Octavia would react the same.

The Octavia is not like that at all. What is happening is the bootlid is releasing for the remote but I'm waiting for it rather than grabbing it before it falls back on the latch and catches again.

I think the good advice is leave shopping in trolley, unlock the car and simply use the boot release manually which negates the chance of locking the keys in the boot as contributors have point out.

I should know before now that you cannot have everything in life!
