Advance warning

Featured Replies

I had the advance warning flash up this evening as i was driving through the Forest of Dean (so arguably the car is more aware than I gave it credit for).

The car didn't brake or whatever, just flashed the symbol and made the noise. I'm not convinced such a major distraction is appropriate when I'm trying no to hit the scenery.

I've had this happen about three times since I had the car nearly a year ago.  The last time was two weeks ago in Białystok, Poland when I was on the inside lane at a junction with barriers to my right and other vehicles stationary to my left.  As with Gyp, it didn't brake and I couldn't see anything that  I was going to imminently hit.

The time previous to this when it happened was in Abergavenny when we had a lot of snow.  Again I couldn't see anything that I could run into, but I assumed that the snow may have caused a false signal.

See if the FLIR in the centre of the grill took an insect strike or something?  The only time I got a false signal was when snow was on the grill. All other times I've got the bleep and red mist, I could see the danger. The first time was when I began to realise the limitations of the ACC.

It could be something as simple as a leaf blowing into the sensor range or even a low-flying bird crossing in front of the car. I agree it is a bit disconcerting the first time it happens.

I get this all the time if I go into underground parking slightly too enthusiastically, of which there are many in Luxembourg.

Had a plastic bag do it to me. The car braked hard enough to activate the ABS then let the brakes off almost as quickly when the bag flew away.

You can adjust the distance at which the warning kicks in , in the other halfs superb it's set to earliest intervention  ! Don't ask ;) oh and you can turn it off if you choose .

Looks like I'll be turning it off

Obviously it's down to personal choice, but I prefer to keep it operative in case an event arose where it's needed.

OK, if it went off every 5 minutes, I'd want to disable it, but I can live with false alarms 3 or 4 times a year.  It'd be worse if it made an emergency stop every time it happened, of course, but this has never happened to me.

Had the car just over a week now and very impressed, mine went off when someone turned sharply in fro t of me, no brakes just warning etc, SHMBO exclaimed “does it even get road rage too”

mine did a similar thing once,  but it also braked in addition to the warning.

person in front of me and me going straight at a single lane roundabout, at the last second, literally the person infront decides to brake hard to go right instead of continuing straight.  no indicator of course.

front assist saved me on that occassion.

That's why I keep mine activated all the time, even if you get the occasional false warning.  They're not that often that they they become tedious.

Yup this happened to me on A1...was defo a brown trousers moment.   Being  suddenly and unexpectedly thrown forward like an emergency stop is not something I wish to be repeated unless it's really needed.

And yes I occasionally get the red symbol . Usually when someone rudely pulls out of a junction in front of me

I suspect it's got some sort of sensor setting that it will warn you once but if the obstacles moves out of the way or the car senses it's getting further away it won't apply the breaks

But it defo apply the breaks if not as mentioned above.....
