Engines and PS/BHP output and ECU Remapping

Featured Replies

Hello.

I am in the market for/would like to purchase a 103PS diesel elegance. Quick simple question, is it worth getting a lower output engine and performing an ECU remap to get it to 103PS or is it better overall to get the original factory fitted 103PS engine?

Probably better to get the more output engine with the power it has as standard rather than pay for a remap then maybe an increase on your insurance because you have a modified car.

Depends who you insure with, or how the costs pan out.

Hi,

If you decide to go down the re-map route if you do need any help with insurance then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

:) Thanks for your input… you have virtually said what I have always thought/felt… namely, get the correct thing in the first, rather than second best and then upgrade/add to it to bring it up to standard.

103PS diesel engines in the Elegance spec [facelift version] are quite rare, or maybe I am finding them rare to buy…

Two questions then [1] does that mean that even the very lowly 75PS engine can be software upgraded to match the 103PS engine? [2] also, purely engine wise, is it simply "just" software that governs their on-the-road output?

You can remap and match a remapped 105 ps engine and have 130ps.

Righto :)

I think I will stick to, as the insurers ask, "has the vehicle been modified at all?", "no its standard manufacturer/factory supplied spec"; Safest easiest and simplest way I think… :)
