Dsg engine discontinued!

Featured Replies

Two months after ordering the estate drg 190 and my dealer has just been told that the estate (could be hatch as well) cannot be built with the drg190 engine. Now they tell me! They can't even guarantee now that my scrappage incentive will be honoured.

Angry is not the word, I feel let down big time and am seriously thinking  of not entering into the Skoda world after all.

I drive a venerable Honda Accord and at this rate I might keep it now. In case I cool down a bit though, and decide to continue with this, anyone had experience of both the 150 and 190, and able to tell me how big the difference is in terms of pulling power. Reason being I tow a caravan, which to be fair my Accord manages fine with its 2.2 136 ps 340 Nm engine.

Had just felt if spending around 30k, would have been nice to have a bit more pull. But was not to be...

Why not a 220 TSI? Much more fun, plenty of power and no DPF/EGR/AdBlue. Each to their own, but I find the TDI’s dull and disapointing.

The difference in the 150 tdi and 190 tdi have been discussed at length on the forum before, as a 150tdi owner and driven the 190 in the Passat a few times recently, i would say theres not much in it at all for day to day driving.  The 190 though does pull that bit harder mid to top range but its not night and day difference.

The 190 will always offer more power when towing, but again, that low end torque when towing may be less noticeable at slower engine speeds.

Do we know why it is being pulled?  Emissions controls (EU6d) or the incoming ‘real-world’ mpg so far away from the official tests that it’s embarrassing perhaps?  Non-DSG is still available.  Perhaps if a proper auto box went in then it would be better....but VW/Audi would never permit that from a competition angle.

Take 190KM DSG 4x4 that one is still available. Even in price lisr this is only DSG 190 version

We have the 190 DSG 4x4 Superb Estate - best tow car we have ever had. Tow a 1550kg caravan with it and it plays with it. See if the dealer will upgrade you to the 4x4 for the same price - worth a try!! You will lose a bit of MPG in day to day usage over the 2wd though.

Im glad I got the 190hp DSG L&K in time. It´s great with the throttle box and it was the absolute maximum my company would go for so the 4x4 was not an option for me :)

After testing the 190 and 150 Superb MK3s, there is DEFINITELY no difference in daily use.  I would even say the 190 was slightly more hesitant to pick up if you wanted the power, but once it came in it was torquier.

We decided on a 150 and are very happy with it.  If you don't tow a large caravan then there won't be a problem getting a 150.

I certainly echo the above comments on the 150.  I even came from a old 170 (as I'm sure you can guess from my username!) and the 150 is absolutely fine by comparison and more than enough in nearly all situations.  The 190 also sounds a bit gruff as well.  340nm in the Superb which should match the Accord so couldn't see it being an issue.  You'll save a few quid and even get a couple of nice extras for the money!

Stop using cast iron and switch to all aluminium or aluminium/magnesium alloy units.  Save some weight too.

190 2WD driver here and I am enormously happy with mine and would happily have another one if they ever reintroduce it. That said, I'd happily have a 150 (and very nearly did this time round). The 150 and 190 are very similar in day-to-day usage, as others have said. I don't recognise the 190 as gruff, and the oomph from the 190 from 30-70+mph is great:biggrin:. There is about a 5mpg penalty to the 190 (2WD) from the 150. I can't comment on towing as I don't do that.

Thanks all for your comments. In the light of extreme non interest from dealer, and Skoda i.e. both just leaving me in the lurch, I cancelled and have sourced a pre reg 2wd 190 ( done 11 miles apparently) from Bristol Street motors albeit a way from where I live. Ironically the ditched dealer's site manager had known nothing about my predicament when I called to cancel and by chance spoke to him. Maybe had he been in the loop earlier then yes perhaps a 190 4wd might have been an answer. Anyway though, if this pre reg comes through ok then I'm happy, and Bristol Street Motors will have come to the rescue of one punter not too happy with a certain outfit in Weston Super Mare
