Insurance when I collect the car

Featured Replies

I pick up my new Edition next week but was wondering if I need to arrange insurance beforehand so I can legally drive it home. Thanks!

Skoda once did a " Seven Days Drive it home Free Insurance "  Ask the dealer and check.

If not you will have to arrange your own

They still do this. I used this but I managed to change car details online also.

Not if you buy on PCH (personal lease).

At least that's what I have been told when I enquired before collecting.

If you ask the dealer (SKODA) they will insure it for 5 days. Used this handy feature as it was free on our last two cars. It used to be 7 days but cost cutting reduced it like smaller chocy bars.

I'm on PCH and did an online quote (compare the market, etc) before I picked the car up. Then at the dealers I logged on and completed the purchase but could have done this a couple of hours earlier TBH.

That's correct

When I picked up my Karoq, after informing my insurers of the date of change over they allowed both cars to overlap insurance for the day. After all, you can only drive one of them at a time.

Skoda's free insurance was too much of a bother for me. As @westie38 says, you can change car on your insurance. Once I got in the new car, the insurance expired on the old car. Just what I needed, could have done it anytime during the day.

Our Karoq is our third Skoda, and we've done it (or had it done) each time. Just in case the cover-note from our own insurers doesn't turn up in time. If finance is involved, they need to see evidence of comp cover on handover day.

Don't they just check on line now?

Ours is insured with admiral who don't send paperwork out now, it's all online.

I always amend my own insurance a day or so in advance, as said the dealer insurance isn't really necessary and it saves them sending you a way too expensive quote, plus i dare say on their 5 day cover the excess will be high.

I think on this third one, he said he could have accepted evidence from my phone. My point is - taking out the free 5 days just removes the uncertainty.

We took the five day insurance and ended up taking insurance for the year from Skoda as they quoted us £300 less than the nearest insurer we could find elsewhere. Worth looking I'd say.

Something to note - it would appear insurance is higher if you ask for the policy to start on the same day. Only applies to new policies, obviously, but if you can save money by switching insurers it may be worth cancelling your existing policy, taking out the 5 day drive away insurance then starting a new policy.

Forgot to say...

The 5 day insurance i think it has an excess of £1000

Of course it has to be insured - you can't tax it if it isn't.

My insurance company allows a 24 hr overlap where both cars are insured so you can swap cars without having to worry about timing.
