Daytime Driving Lights...removal of grill

Featured Replies

How do you remove the small plastic grill "between the DRL lamp cluster and the main grill" on a 2010 Octavia, the grill to access the clasp to release the DRL cluster, the mini grill on my car feels jammed solid...

Is there a special tool required to make it easier....

On my Elegance you just pull it out, might be tight if not removed for a while.

It is very very difficulty to remove the first time by following the instructions in the owners manual. People say it is easier the next time but I have never managed it. To take out a DRL bulb I found it quite easy to remove the bottom two screws on the wheel arch cover which then gives you enough space to put your hand and arm in the gap between the wheel arch and its cover to get to the lamps.

Why do you want to remove the trim?.

Do a search on here for past posts on the subject.

The DRL keeps operating on and off, so it's not a faulty bulb, I can only assume there's a loose connection, the first place to check is the bulb connectors......

I just shoved a credit card down the side and gave it a wiggle.

That is the reason I took out my bulbs. I found the cause was that vibration had fretted away the solder blob contact on the bulb. I put more solder on to build it back up again so it could make contact. No problems since doing that. I guess it will last another 50.000 miles.

If you want to search my past posts you will find photos of how I accessed the bulbs through the wheel arch and a picture of the bulb with the worn away contact.

If you put   Intermittent DRL bulb   In the forum search box at the top of the page, the first result should be my post of 19 July 17.

I tried to put a link to the post on here but this time it didn't work. Make sure the left side of search box says forum and not topic before you hit search.

Mike.

Finally managed to create link.

Found it thanks, think I'll wait until the next service and get the garage to do it, if they only change the bulb and the problem persists I'll get them to rectify the connection problem "at no cost" possibly....

Please let us know the cause once it it is fixed.

Took the car for a service beginning of October, told them when booking it in there was a problem with the Daytime Driving Light "DDL".  They fitted two new bulbs "one each side", six weeks later the same light same problem, went back about the faulty bulb and asked for a new one to be fitted "this time I stayed with the car as the mechanic change it".

He change the bulb but the one he took out, the "not sure of the name" lead contact where it comes into contact with the wire loom looked like it was burnt out or melted, the elements in the bulb were fine.....should have taken a photo of it, but it was honking down with rain.....

Any idea's what causing this or is it a new lamp fitting/wiring loom.......or disconnect the DDL and drive without them.....

It's not uncommon to have wear on the rear of the DRL (Daytime Running Lights) used on the Octavia.

If I were you, I'd use a soldering iron to build up connector at the rear of the bulb and make sure the bulb holder is in good condition. Might be worth cleaning the centre connector and possibly even pulling it slightly to give more press against the bulb.

Alternatively, you can replace just the bulb holder relatively cheaply and easily. The part number is 1Z0 941 669 if it helps :)

Thanks, is that from Skoda......

Plenty of options:

- Your local Skoda dealer will probably charge £7-8 each at a guess.

- You can also email [email protected] for a quote and they'll post them to you.

- There are even on eBay but much more expensive at £19 a side: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222860106548

In this case, I'd probably try your local dealer if they are convenient or try the email above.

It's getting the small grill out, I think mine has been super glued in, even the mechanic had to change the bulb by going in from underneath the wheel arch......

No need to remove the grill.

Find an old credit card and jam it in the gap between the inside of the DRL/fog housing and bumper. That should be enough to undo the clip and it should just pop out.

Just make sure you don't care about the card as it'll probably get damaged ;)
