Will not go faster than 40 in any gear

Featured Replies

My wife's fabia estate has been a lovely car but has always juddered on start up when she is turning around at low revs which goes when moving.

The latest issue is that the car will not go faster than 40mph, garage have established that it's not fuel injection or turbo issue but have looked at forums after running diagnostics.

They think but are not sure that it's a broken wire near the starter or in the loom of that area, has anyone come across this issue and had it fixed, any ideas on which wire or wires and what colours are.

obviously the garage are concerned about the long task of investigating this which has shown as a problem on this model.

simply put any help will be welcomed.

What model is it, petrol, diesel etc?

It's an 02 1.9tdi estate I beleive it 95bhp model and has never had any issues until now.

not being a full techy they pointed out that 3 sensors show an issue but one of this will not clear due to open circuit I.e. Not connected. This lead them to look at a forum which said it is an issue that can happen.

if anyone has come across or had to repair one it would help if any info is to hand.

Sensor open circuit means the sensor has failed and needs replacing unless the wiring to it has broken. We're really going to need more information to make any kind of diagnosis but it sounds like your car is stuck in limp mode.

@S Lindfield - I'd agree that this sounds a lot like the car is stuck in limp mode. Is the Check Engine Light illuminated, or not appearing during the switch-on BITE tests?

The most likely solution is to get someone to do a proper (VCDS or VAG dealership computer) diagnostic scan.
