New wheel bearing...silly question time

Featured Replies

I'm doing the rear wheel bearing this morning. My silly question is.......do I need to put a small blob of additional grease on these sealed units on reassembly or is it not needed these days. I'd normally just put a small amount in anyway, but my bearing grease has gone missing....so can I just not do it or do I need to go shopping for another tin. There was none in the bearing cap on removal and never has been.

Just chuck it on.

Sealed bearings do not require additional grease, you can't find your grease because the 1980's called and took it back.

So what do you use for moisturiser these days.....

Ta for replies.  I've had a right palaver this week with non delivery of a wheel bearing due to a certain carrier company not knowing its a from its e.....so I got another and did the job and whilst I was doing the job... a whole ten days later than it was supposed to be delivered...the first bearing turns up this lunchtime...so what the hell..I changed both of them as the brake drums needed a clean out and a de-rusting and dusting....so I done em both I did !

Its now ready for the MOT...round two......I hope to heaven it passes this time.:dull:
