Alloy Wheel Problem

Featured Replies

As per title, 2 week old car and front alloy chipped when I washed it earlier today. No damage but when I pressure washed wheel cleaner off, chunk of paint came away from one of spokes (18" Gemini alloys on VRS diesel). Am I unlucky or anybody else had similar? Know from past experience if not sorted will corrode from underneath....

Cheers

That's not normal (although I suppose I should add the caveat that it'll be dependent on water pressure - were you using a 'normal' pressure washer?) and i'd suspect indicative of a defect in the wheel finish that was there before you washed it.  On a two week old car I'd be asking Skoda for their opinion.

Show us a picture of the fault.

Had the same thing happen on a one year old bought from a Skoda dealer, they had simply repainted a damaged wheel instead of powder coating it. So the wheel may have been damaged and badly repaired before you collected the car...

Alloy does not sound right.

I had a company superb that was repaired by a ford dealer (the lease company choice) after a certain hire company left blue and yellow paint up the bumper and broke my headlight before driving off.

i jetwashed the car a couple of weeks later and the paint washed off! They seemed most irate when I peeled the remainder off, then I pointed out it was not rubbed down or primed correctly and it would have to all come back off and that I shouldn’t be able to peel it.

Unless you have a good relationship with your dealer or if the damage is in the right place I suspect they’ll say it’s curb damage. I wish you luck.

My wife’s Yeti has a small amount of white worm in different places on a Matterhorn after a few years only on one alloy that is not curb damage, the others are fine so it shows inconsistency in the wheel painting. I will try a warranty claim but I’m not holding my breath.

Pic attached. Not major but not expected on 2 week old car. And if not treated, will just start to corrode. Right down to bare metal. All 4 rims are perfect bar that i.e. no kerbing or any marks at all.....20180528_161657.thumb.jpg.5d2081337768233d59ecd2317f4eb12e.jpg

They’ll say it’s stone chip damage. Still it’s worth a try.

+1

I've got similar on one of my Extreme alloys.

Annoying, but that's life. By all means have a try for warranty though...

Can you get touch up for the anthracite Gemini’s?

It wasnt stone chip. There was muck of some sort on it. Didnt brush it as that will mark black part, pressure wash with normal karscher, spray with alloy cleaner then pressure wash off and that chunk came out. Lease car so not my problem or cost but i take pride in my car (having had 68 to this point!)

Stone chip will always be a good excuse.  Given the condition of your disc and calliper carrier I'd argue it on the balance of probability.
