4x4 Scout 2010 vs 2016... 2010 better??

Featured Replies

Hello,

I just bought Scout 2016, previously I owned scout 2010. I noticed that 4x4 on previous model performed much better.

Yesterday I tried to climb on a wet grass, the car seems to struggle, like is loosing power (the ASR was turned off). Somehow it was not so responsive on all wheels as 2010 model

What is your opinion? Has anybody tried 2016 model on snow?

Best, I

Were the rear wheels on the newer Scout definitely engaging?  Could be a fault in the Haldex system; it's not unheard of in newer cars.

Another consideration..tyres.  What tyres were you previously using compared to what's on the newer Scout?

The rear wheels were engaging, once I got the momentum the car started to normally "drift"  (normal for ASR off). Tyres are  2 years old season tyres... so they should be sliding even more..

But at the start... for a moment I though I want be able to climb a not so steep hill with wet gras :/ (with ex car I climbed ski slopes for fun..)

It was first time I experienced 4x4 with new car... Maybe I am wrong... but a quick impression was that is not performing as on previous one (with wich a had a LOT of 4x4 moments)

Can Haldex be checked with computer? The car is still under warranty and I am planing to visit Skoda for some other things... so I will mention also this issue (I hope I am wrong)

I own the Mk 3 Scout and previously owned a Mk 2. I bitterly regret trading in the Mk 2. In my opiniooniIt was better built (the new one feels cheap in its construction, try flexing the nearside rear  panel behind the wheels, the standard leather seats are not a spot on quality or comfort from the optional leather seats on the Mk 2, Where did the cubby box go in the rear arm rest and the umbrella tray in the boot?), the Mk 2had a better engine (The throttle clutch balance causes constant stalling on the Mk3), it was better equipped (other than the electronic wizardry), tyre wear was even across all 4 corners where now the front tyre wear quicker (noticeable when pulling away as occasionally the front wheels will slip). All in all Skoda will have to seriously look at the quality I don't thinkI will be buying another!! Which is a shame it has been reliable and did perform adequately  in the snow.

Hey, waht exactly do you mean by “stalling”? I also noticed, that clutch is not performing so well (with only 60.000 km). If I go full throttle on dry road... I feel a slight “vibration” on the gas pedal... like the clutch is too weak for this vehicle. And I doubt that is worn out.... the car is new!

which model built are you talking about (with mentioning mk3)?

Model:-  65 plate Mk 3 Octavia Scout.

Generally when pulling away. especially on slight hills, I feel you have to over Rev the Engine to prevent stalling, I feel it is an engine management issue very low torque at idle unless you seriously throttle the engine.

I have had a few Haldex generations on different machines, Personally I find the 5th gen the best. Not such a jump as the 4th was over the 3rd gen but still the best.

Although they are generally good if it is not performing as you would expect then it needs looking at. Have a read through THIS thread

I went form a 2010 Scout to a 2016 Scout and whilst i'm not going to say that I can feel any massive benefits of the later Haldex (so far), I would definitely say it isn't any worst.  I ran both my cars with the same Continental Winter tyres in snow / Ice and i would say that the 2016 was just as good as the 2010.  Where the 2016 is better is with the ability to switch it into off road mode and having the hill decent control.

Other than that the only pitfalls of the 2016 for me are :

When I first purchased it I did stall it a number of times - I found it more prominent in Eco mode.  Now i predominantly run in sports mode.

The speaker set up/stereo system is nowhere near as good as the 2010 that I had.

The engine is less efficient.  I used to see 63 mpg into work on the 2010 but now in my 2016 its more like 57mpg

I leave the ASR on and let the computers do their job, only turning off if i was really stuck.

My 2016 is wearing the front tyres quicker than the back just as my 2010 did which is what I'd expect in a front biased 4x4 setup.

Other than that the difference between the 2 models are like night and day (in a good way and in favour of the Oct 3).
