Judder setting off DSG

Featured Replies

Hi all, looking for thoughts about my lovely Yeti (1.2 DSG Elegance 2011) current mileage 56,000

Always been impressed with the Yeti but the past year it seems that it isn't as durable as hoped!

March this year had major service done at Halfords but wasn't impressed, couple of days after, the engine light came on along with the light showing a car with wavy tracks (Traction control?). Restarting cleared the fault lights but I noticed I was getting a bit of a shudder/judder when setting off from rest, I put it down to damp road and traction control acting daft.

I booked it in at Sheffield dealers and they and they advised I needed new plugs and coil pack, a little under £500 and the Yeti was like a racing car, even sport mode was better: Happy bunny!

Couple of weeks ago, dashboard lit up like a xmas tree; same as it did in March and again It started with the judder from rest but not all the time and to cap it, I went to open the rear passenger door and the handle came off in my hand, 46 years of driving and that has never happened before :-(

Back to dealers and they report there's nothing wrong with the plugs and coil pack, they think it's the clutch pack! The same problem as before but this time they want £1500 and a mere £174 to replace the handle (parts £26). I am reviewing the situation :-) It's a DSG, everything is automatic and it's only done 56000 miles.

Just wondering if I'm having my leg lifted and the problem is to do with the EMS?

Anyone else had this problem?

Did it have the 3 service campaigns for the motronic ecu, the ignition harness and the cam chain done?.

Hi Ryeman. Not sure! dealer did all serving while under warranty. It had the plugs and coil pack done under warranty at 20,000. Is there a way to check?

Was the service campaign ever done on the DSG, started May 2014,  34F7 changing the synthetic oil for mineral, and a software update.  Free.

There should be a sticker in the spare tyre well beside the build sticker if done.

Then the ignition cable TPI,   that should not have cost you money.

Then there was the TPI for the timing chain issue.

the holy trinity of possible issues, all that a good Dealership should have had a good technician tell you about.

Seems like some Dealership was happier charging you for money rather than Skoda.

Hi Offski. What is TPI?

Googled Technical Product Info :-)

Technical Product Information.   The manufacturers tell the people that are servicing and repairing cars about faults, possible failures, part updates.

There are more up to date threads, owners still have issues, there is a solution to them, there was a TPI on the matter.

Cheers Offski, I'll have a read. Can't sleep thinking about all that money i have to spend - typical Yorkshire bloke :-)

Offski & Ryeman. Update.

Been doing a lot of reading and fact finding. I've found the sticker in the boot for the oil change and software update. The timing chain doesn't seem to be applicable to my Yeti - if I've read the VIN advice correctly, seems to be more for pre 2011.

The HT leads TPI still has me puzzled, can I download it from somewhere? I've had a good trawl on t'interweb and not found one. From all the threads I've read it looks like the Sheffield dealer owes me some money! How do I refer them to the TPI? I had plug leads renewed March 2014, just out of warranty and 29000 miles £140.

March 2018, new coil, plugs, Ign leads 54000 miles £490, ouch.

Got it booked in for a clutch pack 56000 miles £1500. (same problem as in March but it's the clutch this time!!!)

Definitely going to bend someones ear at SUK.

The TPI's are at the fingertips of the employees in Main / Official Dealerships.  You are not supposed to have to tell them, but you can and they can check.

Mine's a 2011 1.2 DSG.  Less than 30,00 on the clock. It had a clutch pack under warranty within the first three years to fix the juddering when pulling away from standstill (or near standstill)  ... plus whatever mods and fixes the  the manufacturer told the dealer to do to the transmission.  I's been OK since, BUT I do treat the transmission like it was made of marzipan ... I'm careful when pulling away and, within reason, try to exercise as much "car sympathy " with  it as possible.

It's trivial to get a list of TPI's for a specific VIN from http://erwin.skoda-auto.cz

An hours access should be plenty :)

JeffD - received your PM yesterday and replied to it. Hope the reply answered your question as nothing heard back since.
