Unsure Mk1 or Mk2

Featured Replies

Hello,

My partners car is a 57 plate Octavia estate, however all the parts we try and get using the reg are wrong,  The Vin seems to point that its a 1U (TMBJS41U088847119) as apposed to a 1Z? What do you guys think a Mk2 or a Mk1? if it's a Mk1 how come it 's a 57 plate when the Mk 1's ran to 2005?

Many thanks in advanced

Chris

Mk1s (1U) continued to be available for several years after mk2s became available. Wikipedia it.

Or go here, click on Octavia and check out the extent of the 1U/1Z overlap: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/

Do you have a photo? Easiest way would be to post a picture and we can identify for sure.

Can happen with any vehicle.

KTM found a load of old RC8 motorcycles in 2011 which were made in 2007.

As a result you could buy a brand new old model for very little.

I saw an 11 plate type 2 camper the other day

@chaff900 - The Octavia mk1 was available primarily for the taxi/private hire market for several years after the usually quoted run-out date. A photo, engine size/tune and trim level and we'll know for sure.

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies, I’ve asked the Mrs to send photos through. As I work 476 miles away! It is an ex taxi, with a 1.9 TDI I’ll update with a photo when she sends it through!

If its 1.9 it'll be mk1.

The mk2 should of been the same 2.0 as the mk5 golf platformed cars

The VIN tells all. It's a model year 2008 Mk1.

Thats what i thought with the VIN, but wanted to be sure. I only ask as i need to replace the bearing carrier assembly (previous owner loved a windy gun and stripped some threads) and was going to change the hub and bearing at the same time, ordering parts is nightmare if you us the the Reg!  Hopefully i have uploaded the pictures correctly.

Chaff, from your pictures above, that is definitely a Mk1 Octavia.

An alternative if you are in a hurry: To quote Mike from elsewhere on here; "Please don't be afraid to call me guys 01905 346808 you'll get a much quicker answer! I am very stretched!".

I did once post about having spotted a 2010 regged mk1 on the way to work one day. They just kept churning them out for taxis for years.

Iirc somebody had a theory or story it was to keep a factory/ production line operational while they got it and staff ready to retool and swap over to mqb based production.
