Rear hatch - Plastic trim removal.

Featured Replies

My rear screen washer wasn't working so I checked behind the CD changer to find the pipe in place. I kept the washer going until the bottle ran dry so it had to be going somewhere. It wasn't until I lifted the tail gate that I got a nice water feature running out from the hatch lock.

What I need to know is how does the plastic trim come off? I tried pulling it gently but a metal clip flew off and bounced all over the shop. I don't want to damage anything by just being ham fisted is there a technique or procedure that you need to follow to avoid permanent damage????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pull the rubber bung things near the window. I got it back on easily the first time, but I'm having trouble this time....

Once you've got it off, my top tip for getting it back on is to do it while sat inside the boot with the hatch closed (parcel shelf removed obivously ;-). Try to do it with the tail gate in the open position is troublesome - you can't see where you'rr meant to be lining it up and your fighting against gravity.

Just to drag this back up again, I had the troublesome light bulb holder disappearing into the body issue when changing a bulb over the number plate months ago but I left it at the time.

Now with my NCT due, the Irish equivalent to the MOT, I tried to tackle it again last night using a tweezers but it wouldn't budge. Car was in for a service today anyway and I got them to fix it which they did but driving home there was a rattle from the back and straight away I knew the trim wasn't on correctly. Tried to get it back on again but couldn't fit it properly so I plan on doing it from inside the boot this evening at home, I may get too many strange looks sat in the boot of a car in my office car park if I try it now !

I found another useful tip to be to take the metal clips off the trim and place them on the bodywork first, then clip the trim into them rather than the other way round. HTH.

Took mine off with same prob as you but it has had a very slight viration on some roads ever since.

I found sitting in the boot, but also using one of those little dental mirrors to look behind the trim and ensuring the clips are meeting up worked wonders when refitting mine.

I don't know how successful it will be, but I've tried to tackle the "disappearing number plate light" by wrapping the bulb holders with insulating tape.
