Is there a date for the availability of the L&K model?

"Later this year" is as accurate as it gets.

Comfort redefined - new range-topping Laurin & Klement model joins the award-winning Kodiaq range

July 25, 2018

›   New range-topping model features unique styling and huge specification list
›   Available to order now, priced from £35,945 RRP*
›   Area view, progressive steering, ambient lighting all fitted as standard
›   Seven seat layout delivers comfort and luxury for all passengers

Milton Keynes, 24 July 2018: Not content with building one of the most luxurious, comfortable and generously equipped SUVs on the market, ŠKODA is raising the bar even higher with the launch of a new range-topping Kodiaq Laurin & Klement model.

Available to order at ŠKODA retailers now with prices starting from £35,945 RRP*, the L&K model features even more creature comforts, safety systems and driver technology than the previous top model - the Kodiaq Edition - further enhancing its reputation for value and practicality. The new Kodiaq L&K is available with four engine options; one petrol and three diesels, with power outputs ranging from 150PS to 190PS. All feature all-wheel drive and are available with DSG transmissions or in the case of the 2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 variant, a six-speed manual option.

Named in honour of the company’s founders, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, the new Kodiaq L&K is the most luxurious SUV ever offered by ŠKODA. Like other L&K models in the brand’s line-up, the Kodiaq L&K comes with a remarkably generous specification list that few, if any rivals, can come close to matching. In terms of design, the Kodiaq L&K is distinguished from other models in the range by a chrome grille, 19-inch Sirius alloy wheels finished in anthracite and unique front and rear bumpers. Body-coloured under-door panels with distinctive L&K signature logos on the front wings complete the exterior design package.

The luxurious theme continues inside where the cabin is bathed in natural light thanks to the standard panoramic sunroof. The seats are trimmed in leather and alongside the armrest, feature an L&K logo. Piano black decorative trims further enhance the premium feel, as does the standard ambient lighting system and aluminium trimmed pedals.

As befits a range-topping model, the Kodiaq L&K showcases ŠKODA’s numerous technologies, driver assistants and safety features. These include Columbus infotainment system, Area view, progressive steering, curtain airbags, CANTON sound system and heated windscreen. Despite the remarkable equipment list, the Kodiaq L&K still represents incredible value for money. While the new range-topper commands a £2,550 premium over the Edition model, the cost of the individual options fitted to the L&K as standard would usually cost more than £3,000.

Model              Engine                                     RRP*

Kodiaq L&K     2.0 TSI 190PS 4x4 DSG          £37,020

Kodiaq L&K     2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 Manual     £35,945

Kodiaq L&K     2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 DSG          £37,245

Kodiaq L&K     2.0 TDI 190PS 4x4 DSG          £38,105

First deliveries for the new Kodiaq L&K are expected later in the year.

* On-the-road (OTR) prices are dependent on final CO2 figures - which are yet to be finalised. As soon as these are available, confirmed on the road (OTR) prices will be issued.

Save the press release until you've added the new model to your configurator...

They can't add it until they know the OTR (and, therefore, the CO2) figure.

Good value if you actually want all those extras... not so much if you don't. Surprised it's only available as a 4x4 - that makes sense on the Scout, and possibly at a stretch on the Sportline... but 4x4 != luxury, so does it make sense on the L&K?

To be fair Skoda don't know that for most of the MY19 Kodiaq range...try ordering one...

The press release claims they are available to order now.

If you can walk into a dealer and order one there should be no reason why they can't be configured online.

The Sportline being only 4x4 is a Skoda UK thing - we get them in 2 wheel drive in Ireland (its a lower default spec too). The 2019 Kodiaq Sportlines start as a 1.5 Tsi, FWD,  6 speed manual. You can also get the 2.0 Tdi 150 as FWD and DSG.

The downside is the total lack of a petrol 4x4 Kodiaq - Sportline or otherwise. We still aren't getting them (according to the latest pricelists anyways).

Prices after discount would be interesting. The Q5, Dicovery Sport and XC60 are similarly price to the L&K however the Skoda has a better petrol engine than the two latter. Further more, if you need a seven seater then the Skoda is the only option. It would be interesting to see a finance example as I suspect that the posh trim and equipment will do little for the resale value.

I think it's important to make a distinction there - you can get a Q5, a Discovery Sport or an XC60 for the same price, but it will be a bottom of the range (or near enough) model with nowhere near as much tech or anything else as the L&K.

The Discovery Sport is available with 7 seats.

Even a “base” Q5 is very well equipped. Panoramic roof, Canton sound system and heated windshield are the only features the L&K has that a base Q5 doesn’t. If someone wants them the Karoq is a good value if discounts are 15-20%.If not, the Q5 will be cheaper over 3-5 years because of the higher resale value.

This isn’t uncommon though. Skoda, Kia, Toyota and similar brand offer great value for entry and sometime mid level models. If you want top engines or lots of spec then you are sometimes financially better off buying from a premium brand.

However the Kodiaq can be very highly specced under the magical £40,000 mark which will make a difference to some. I am certainly not keen on an annual emissions bill of £515. A 2.0 petrol QT Sport is £39,000 which allow for just one more option before breaching 40k.

Area View... Adaptive Cruise Control... Touchscreen Infotainment System (ever tried using Android Auto / CarPlay without?)... Sat Nav... Lane Assist... Blind Spot Monitor... and, as you say, 7 seats. And a few other things too.

And the base Q5 is approx £4k more than the L&K to start with.

Thanks. The info I have seen don't include a full list of options :)

When I configured a Q5 to have the same level of equipment as our Kodiaq, the list price was getting on towards £50k. They’re expensive cars. They’re also much smaller inside than the Kodiaq.

Indeed.

I know someone with a petrol Q5 and although they acquired it nearly-new at a reasonable price, I just can’t see any advantages over a Kodiaq.

Sorry, but alcantara door trim, scrolling rear indicators, non-keyless door opening and only 5 seats doesn’t look like a bargain to me.

Every time I see a “premium” brand car I just think - “Why pay more for less”.

Got me curious so just looking at Q5 pricing  here...

Kodiaq Sportline = NZ$62k

Q5 TFSI Sport = NZ$99k

Some differences in spec obviously... the Q5 having more power, leather & virtual cockpit as standard, but then you have (to bring up to NZ Sportline spec roughly) :

Audi Exclusive Black Gloss Styling Pack - NZ$1500

Black Mirror Housings - NZ$300

Auto Dimming Exterior Mirrors - NZ$250

Ambient Lighting - NZ$400

Audi Sound - NZ$850

Heated Rear Seats - NZ$950

So whilst more power would be nice I can't see the appeal... I'd much rather have my rare Steel Grey Sportline (only 2 in NZ as far as I know) than a dime a dozen Q5 for another NZ$40k.

There's a steel grey Sportline sitting at Tristram Skoda, that might be one

I may not want to “pay more for less”, but I’m also I unlikely to “pay less for less” in the near future.

For me, space is king these days.

Karoq scout. Karoq Sportline and Kodiaq L&K all in the news section of the skoda UK website

Here's the updated brochures finally for the L&K.

Sadly virtual cockpit still not standard on it. Not much room for any options if trying to stay below 40k.
