Water Pump Petrol VRS 2013

Featured Replies

Anybody experienced water pump failure - Car is overheating and its been diagnosed as water pump failure part is on back order with a lead time of 8 to days 10 days. I know this is a common issue with diesel cars but did not think it was an issue with the petrol model or am i wrong

To me this means Skoda run with limited stoke or they have had a lot of failures lately.

Car mileage 52000 miles

Welcome to the club!!  There is an on-going topic in here about it. I'll try to dig out the link

Sorry just noticed it's petrol.  What's the mileage?

Is it possible that it's less common on the petrol due to the sheer number sold VS the diesels? There's nothing specific about the issue on the diesel that rules it out from the petrol variant iirc.

Its a common problem with the TSI engine, the water pumps leak & the thermostat housing leaks as well,i was told there is now a modified housing available,my previous Golf R had just started to leak from the housing before i traded it in,its quite a involved & expensive job to do.

I may be wrong as i dont know lots about the diesel water pump but on the petrol its fitted to a housing under the inlet manifold & is driven by its own small drivebelt, this housing has the thermostat in it as well. I think the diesel water pump is driven by the cambelt.

That would make sense actually, forgot the diesel was Cambelt still.

Yes. We had 2 fail in the first 3 yrs of ownership. I think I started a thread on it way back......

Here it is.

Mine failed on 48k miles and also the high pressure fuel pump at the same time !

Just had the water pump fail on my near 5 year old 54k km 1.4tsi manual.

Long story:

Went in with coolant leaking from the port side of the engine, they replaced the housing, I drove away and all seemed good then the wife drove it to the airport and came back with the coolant low warning, and leak showing.

Topped it up and drove it back to dealers and the water temp gauge would not go up to 90 deg C..

They pressure tested it overnight and declared it ok. I said rubbish, they had to test it properly on the road, so the dealer drove it home and then next day on the way in it would not run up to temperature and spat out coolant.

They are now replacing the water pump (to be shipped from Melbourne to Adelaide overnight).

The dealer did say that water pump failures on 2 litre petrol and diesel were common.
