Cool. Do you find if Eco mode improves mpg on the motorway? Not made up my mind yet on that one.

I don’t like eco mode when using ACC it’s very sluggish when you pull out from behind a slower vehicle it takes to long to get to your chosen speed I leave in normal mode all the time

Engine? Transmission?

If you read what I typed you can see I said 1.5 petrol (148bhp) with a six speed manual gearbox, I am just a very economical driver.

I used to play this game when I was regularly travelling to and from work.  Normal aiming for at least 60 mph and 40 mpg though over a 145 mile journey.

I like that idea. I will have to work out the kph/kpl equivalent

Doesn't work too well for metric conversion due to lower linear relationship between speed and consumption unit measures. .

If you obey UK traffic speed limits you are doing very well to average 60mph for any reasonable length journey and similar story here in Australia.

Here is what I got from my recent commute home today.

1.6 TDI SE L DSG with Eco mode switched on and Aircon set to auto and 22 celcius

Drive mainly on the Motorway, with cruise set to 65mph for as much of the journey as possible.

There seems to be a lot more variation in the reported consumption results for the 1.5tsi than I would have expected.

The old 1.4tsi in the Octavia and the ACT version in the Superb were quite consistent with most Briskoda Fuelly users showing in the mid 40's mpg representing high 30's or low 40's around town and 50 to 60 on highways depending on conditions.

The fact that some Karoq 1.5tsi owners reporting they just cannot seem to budge over the low 40's average even on longer runs is a bit worrying.

Notwithstanding Shyrs245's abilities to milk excellent results from a good version of the engine I see no reason why some others cannot get near 50mpg or more on  UK motorways at legal speeds.

The Karoq has just been released in Australia, initially only in 1.5tsi FWD versions, and we get a 'special' 1.5tsi engine that can run more happily on our high sulphur 95 octane fuels. Early local reviews are very positive and I am looking forward to viewing one when they get in our showrooms.

Just read Auto Express road test on three 2.0Turbo petrol saloons. Results as follows;

Jaguar XE                 £34,565    1,611KG    197BHP   320NM    8.2 seconds   8.1 seconds   148MPH   32.0MPG

Alfa Giulia                £31,580     1,429KG   197BHP   33ONM   6.7 seconds   6.0 seconds   146MPH   30.7MPG

Kia Stinger               £35,525     1,717KG    244BHP  353NM    6.9 seconds   6.0 seconds   149MPH   27.4MPG

VRS245                     £27,595     1,370KG    242BHP  370NM    6.6 seconds   5.8 seconds   155MPH   38.9MPG

I have included the road test figures for standard Skoda Octavia VRS245 from the same magazine and also as we know the boot

capacity is 590 litres whereas Jaguar 455 litres, Alfa 480 litres and Kia 406 litres.

Would i swap my modified £28,600 Skoda with 302BHP and 467NM which has averaged 39.3MPG over 10,000 miles for any of

these EXECUTIVE cars.Absolutely NOT.Save yourself thousands of pounds and buy the Skoda. If anyone was wondering my

car will lose £15,000 over 3 years and 36,000 miles whilst Jaguar loses £21,316, Alfa loses £18,177 and Kia loses £20,100.

Should have explained first acceleration figures refer to 0-60MPH and second figures are for 30-70MPH.

Same car different drivers. Yesterday wife did the usual 26 mile commute in her car Karoq 1.5Tsi manual SEL. She averaged 30 mph and took 1 hour to get home between 5-6pm. Today my 26 mile commute between 5-6pm in her car was my usual 41 mph average, the big difference was that she averaged 45.6MPG and I averaged 59.6MPG. Goes to show that although the cars travelled the same distance roads used and traffic condtions can affect your consumption dramatically.

That’s the way to enjoy fun motoring!

Not sure on all the Auto Express figures there.

Reading the Kia Stinger 244hp petrol they have 0-62 mph in 6 seconds dead,  not a 0-60 mph in the article i just read. Why give a 0-60 & not 62 mph / 100km/h

It’s all just Individual figures ,mines bigger than yours syndrome ,0-60 in x seconds and y mpg I don’t think so .150mph and y mpg never ,all the  top trump figures might be valid but hardly applicable to what a  car/driving is all about and why people drive different vehicles and can’t even remember the last time I managed to run at 146-155 mph in this country in fact your lucky to get a good run over 60 mph on the motorways in this country now.

As to the 'Kerb Weights'  / Unladen  all very interesting for a 60-75 kg driver in a car with no optional extras and not a full tank of fuel, driving a 5 seater / taxi / airport transport size car on their own.  ie loads of those that commute in gas guzzlers taking up road space.

Not much to do with the real world that many need bigger cars for & Honest John,  Auto Express,  Autocar / What Car / Pistonheads should maybe take real cars put 5 fat barstewards in them and fill the boot with 4 23kg seatcases and 4 10kg carry ons and then do the 0-62 mph times, and 30-70 mph's and also see what the miles per litre the car does as they might get used if at 'revenue weight'.

PS

Test any of the 5 2.0l Petrol car in the post of test figures and test at around 3*oC Ambient temp in the rain on the OEM tyres Manufacturers deliver cars to the UK and with the tyre pressures a dealership puts them out with.

& if testing a car from the Manufacturers Media Fleet be sure there is 95 ron in the tank of petrol cars because sometimes they are filled with Super Unleaded, maybe not even just 97/99 ron.

(Not that tester are that interested in checking tyre pressures, cars weight as tested or what fuel is in as they collect a car, or at a launch if the media team had the cars warmed up before handing over as had to be done with the last Audi RS3 because they were drinking oil being tested from cold on road or track by journalists and low Oil Warning Lights were coming on. Not that Auto Express or Autocar will print that in their roadtest / big ups!)

Is the 'consumption' part on the display meant to settle at all? It just seems to keep flying around all over the place, from low to 300 before going blank and just showing the 3 small lines. Not had a car with all these gizmos before so don't know if it's normal. 'Average consumption' part is as I'd expect.

Flick through and go to 'Average Consumption'  and 1 or 2,  you have it on the setting showing instant consumption.

Will try that thanks.

Couldn't see anything on the 'average consumption' part that I could alter, what am I missing?
