what options on vRS TSI

Featured Replies

Hi all,

What options are a must on the vRS Estate from experience?

Also, I am guessing the 245 is no longer available?

Also, is it worth getting the Superb 220 instead as it 'seems' much bigger (better for us) or is there enough space for family in vRS (test drive booked for Saturday)

Thanks in advance

MY19 thread is your friend, vRS petrol is standard 245 and diesel is 184 DSG only.

The need for the Superb will depend on your need for interior space and more importantly rear leg room. There is virtually nothing in the boot sizes of the 2 cars but significant difference in rear leg room. I am quite tall so when I have the driver seat adjusted correctly for me there is not a lot of room behind me in the Octavia but in the Superb I can sit behind myself with the amount of leg room still present. So with my kids getting older the Octavia really would not have been big enough for us.

Ok PSM, thanks for that, our boy is still small and I am only 6foot so will see on Saturday at the test drive.

I tried the Superb a month ago and it is quite rightly as you say huge....maybe too much. The price difference as well is significant between the VRS Octavia Estate and the Superb L&K Hatch (our preferred spec). Not sure about noise insulation and comfort differences.

Also, the Superb doesn't handle in the same way as the Octy. Do you favour driving dynamics or comfort and refinement ?

Erm both :)

Whats the difference? When I tested the 220TSI Superb I found it quite wallowy and the front lifted on heavy acceleration and created a bit of torque steer but I imagine when cruising it would be better.

You can't have both, there has to be a compromise to some extent.

The Superb is a step-up in terms of refinement and comfort, if it's all about driving dynamics the Octavia is the way to go.

Not having the kids kicking the backs of the seats is enough of a reason to choose the Superb. Keeping the kids asleep rather than entertained would also be a higher priority for me.

Either way, a must have factory option is a spare wheel. If you're feeling flush go for the heated windscreen too (standard on the Superb L&K).

Seriously though, pretty much what you said! The Octy is much tighter and pointable, but you feel features in the road. Not uncomfortable or crashy but not exactly pliant. The Superb, by no means a poor handler, is more supple and softer but not athletic in the way the Octy is.

Is the panoroof worth it at £1100 ....? Does it eat into head room much?

One way to put it :)

As for options - my 245 has everything I need - electric & heated Alcantara seats, heated windscreen and door mirrors (foldable too), sunroof, 8" Amundsen, standard cruise control, DSG and a sweet, sweet engine.

I've got a hatch, so no Pano roof - just the standard sun roof, but my Leon ST had it - if I bought an estate, it would DEFINITELY have the Pano roof....

First of all, plenty of space in the back of Octavia for adults, not mentioning for kids. Superb

Absolutely yes!

It eats a bit of height, but rarely can be an issue in Octavia, as you can lower the seat a lot. Unless you aren't much above 2 meters of height don't expect any problem.

Cheers, what about the DCC? Again, is it worth it?

All the reviews say yes, but I don't have it on mine and I don't have any issues with the ride.

Tbf, if I could've picked it, I probably would've. That and Columbus are the two options I would've added.

Canton + DCC + Virtual Cockpit if it's a new order

If you both handelling and comfort you need DCC

The models including the vRS that will be available for first registration after September might be limited in options as each version needs the WLTP results.

Simple to have more as standard and fewer options.  Well maybe for a while until Skoda can get vehicles built with test results and get them delivered and sold.

Nice to have's are.

Winter Pack,

Columbus Nav

Canton

DCC

Waste of money (IMO)

Intelligent Park Assist, only used it once to see if it works and the side sensors are too sensitive in every day use.

Absolutely, without any hesitation. I love how it transforms ride on 19" wheels to actually quite comfort vehicle. On winter Eighteens, it floats.

If next question is Canton - YES! :D

Navigation - YES! :D

Go for all of it if you have budget. It's worth it.

I’m 6’01” and can comfortably sit ‘behind myself’ in the Octy Estate with plenty of leg room to spare.

Pano roof?  Yes, all day long. Brightens the cabin a great deal and the kids love looking up and out, be it the sun / clouds / blue sky or the stars at night.

Good luck choosing!

Cheers.

Oh, and Columbus nav is a nice add-on if you can find one.

Agree, I don't have an issue with rear legroom. The Mk2 Octavia's rear legroom is similar to a Golf but the Mk3's rear legroom with it's stretched wheel base is approaching Passat levels of space.

Of course the Superb offers more but the OP will need to try an Octavia 3 for himself to see if the space is enough for him.

6’2” and can sit behind myself in the Octavia, hurt my shins trying the same in a C Class - I think the E would have been a closer match but then externally it’s a much bigger car.

I’d have considered a Superb for myself but figured maybe too big for the missus, it would overhang our drive too much and I figured parking it some of the places we go as a family might be problematic.

Happy with the Octavia as a family car, really is excellent.

Option wise, IMHO they are pretty well specced already. I havent heard Canton but the standard MIB2 head units in the new cars are ok, although I’m sure it’s an improvement I don’t think it’s as much of a must have. If audio is important good to have a listen and see.
