Driver's Door Window Switches

Featured Replies

Had my L&K for roughly four weeks.  I'm owner number 3, with the first owner being a dealer in Wales (I'm guessing a re-reg).

Anyhow, over the past week or so I noticed the front window switches getting a bit funny with me.  First it was the one touch for the passenger, and then the driver side - only down mind, up was fine.  Then this morning both switches for driver and passenger failed.  Switches feel a little "floppy" - but, if I put windows down with key, I can use one touch to get them both up, and can feel the resistance.  Odd.  I'm guessing something internal to the switch has gone - both switches lack the "click" feel when pushing down.  The rears, however, are fine, so I'm guessing there's something common between the two switches for the front windows has gone.

Does anyone know whether something like this would be covered by the Skoda warrantee?  I'm guessing it's something like the following found on the Octavia forum:

It's annoying as I'll now need to use key to get windows down, then keep driver's window down until I pick Mrs up (she's in a gated factory - so need to speak with security on way in).  I'm not overly worried this weather, but don't fancy it in the wet.  Car is going to a Skoda repairer next week to give it the once over (purchased from a non-franchise dealer - so want to make sure it's had all "campaigns" and software updates from an official dealer / repairer).

Thanks for any input.

Not much help but MY17 Sportline had problems with one-touch opening, on the driver switch.  It didn’t feel as ‘positive’ as the the other switches.

I tried the reset procedure on several occasions but it was pure luck whether or not one-touch opening would work, often not.

I suspected a faulty switch and was going to get it investigated at the first service but I p/x’d the car beforehand.

Thanks - it does help because it shows that it's not just me.  The problem I have is that it's not just the one-touch, but it's the actual opening of both front windows from the driver side - neither switch seems to work, yet both open with the key, and the passenger window opens from the passenger switch.  I've got it going in next weekend for the once over (brakes mainly, as I think they may need attention) so will mention it at the same time.

One thing you could do is to remove the driver door window switches panel and see if the plug is connected correctly and if there was any visual damage.

If there is no click and swtiches feel floppy, then it seems to me very much like a mechanical damage. I have no idea how a mechanical damage could take place in such place (wohoo, I'm so poetic today). Maybe placing your elbow on the swithes panel with too much force?

Your car still has warranty, I believe?

Thanks.  I have had the car four weeks, and don't place elbow on the door rest - so don't know what may have caused damage if it is damage (which I'm guessing it is).  I was toying with the idea of pulling the switch panel out but, if it's going to be looked at next weekend, I'll hold off until they can tell me - they're the pros at this sort of thing (one assumes!).

It should still have warranty - it's three years, if I'm correct, and the car is only just two years old with 25K miles - so well within the 60K warranty limit.  I'll drop the dealer I'm taking it to an email to see what they say.  Luckily the dealer is close to the centre of a city, so at least when I drop the car off I can go and take a walk and look at nice things I can't afford... :)

Bit late here, but many VW branded vehicles have issues with wires snapping inside the door bellows. Have a look here, if you have not yet figured out the issue. Also, try a different switch, if possible. They do get worn too. Should still be warranty issue at the moment as should the wires in the door. I think they are quite costly to replace the entire loom, rather then just "Bodge" the wires together so if done by dealer, make sure they fix it properly!
