2014 Skoda Superb starting issue.

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

So i have a 2014 skoda superb 2.0 l&k and for about 3-4 months i had an issue when starting the engine.

So the engine starts and then dies immediatelly. I have to keep trying sometimes 20 times until it starts. The dashboard error shows thay piggy tail as shown in the first picture and a tester i tried shows the error in the second picture. I couldnt find anything online about that error, just one guy with an audi trying to find out what it is :)

Anyone knows what could that be?

As a note, if the engine is running, turning it off and on works fine if you dont wait longer than 5 seconds. If you wait more, it wont start again.

I would find somebody with VCDS to scan it, might get a more sensible code, never seen that one before.

It's a GLOW PLUG LIGHT - use Google, but you'll have to find mechanic anyway.

Sounds like an immobiliser issue: if the immobiliser verification fails, it'll start the engine but immediately cut it again. Does the problem occur with one key or both? If only one, it could be a damaged key, if both it could be the sensor in the ignition barrel or the wiring associated with it.

As above, get it scanned with VCDS, VAS5051 or ODIS to get better information on the issue from the car.

thanks for your replies guys. tried with the second key and it was doing the same. then run vcds on it and it came with the fault on the attached picture. now searching for that error looks like some sensors or timing issue.

now going back, i realised this issue started just after ive done the timing belt, so it looks like its a timing problem. but still, i dont understand how the car can function properly once started if the timing is wrong.

once again, thanks for everyone who replied. just did the timing again (looks like it was off a little bit) and now it starts like it should :)

I hope you used the correct VW lockdown tools. If you didn't you're risking serious engine problems down the line.

i havent used anything myself, the mechanic did. i was really really lucky, ive done around 50k miles with the timing like that with no engine damage and i tend to push the pedal quite hard.

50k miles with the timing like that - if a cam belt is ever disturbed it's best to fit a new one especially after that mileage. Years ago I retimed a cambelt on a Sherpa van - big mistake as the belt failed shortly after
