electric window switch, replaced and still not working

Featured Replies

I'm confused. The passenger side switch on the drivers side twin controls stopped working some time ago, it didn't deteriorate, not that I remember, but it doesn't work at all now. I took the switches out and took them apart, expecting corrosion and it's like new. I replaced the switches, and it's not solved the problem. what's my next course of action *

* as a further note, whilst the passenger side control does work, it 'sometimes' stutters, and requires a few tries to tease the window back up, does this help diagnose the problem ?

Likely a problem with the door wiring loom, the roomsters seem to be prone to it, there's a few threads on the forum like below. Have a quick look inside the rubber boot between the door and the car and you'll likely find some broken wires.

I have a similar problem on the passenger side on mine, although not yet got round to fixing it yet.

Ah! Those broken cables... In my case was the driver's door lock that was acting weird.

Just had this sorted at the local vw dealership.. no Skoda one for 100 miles in Northern Ireland.

Same symptom, 6 wires in the loom broken or damaged. Repaired with vw crimping kit. Parts charge negligible but one and half hours labour.. niggling and fiddly job. Had my roomster 7yrs. mechanically faultless but poor quality control on electricals have been a constant irritation.

Harrumph, I go away to Wales in hot weather, with a passenger, the passenger side elec front window stops working! Thank goodness the aircon still works, and I've a big slab of behind-radiator shiny insulation to prop in the windscreen/visors space.

Booked in to local garage this Wednesday for probable wiring repair within driver's door, possibly another Sencom wiring repair kit.

And methinks a front wheel bearing starting to rumble, so those are getting inspected, also a pre-MOT checkover.

Roomsters quite numerous in the Porthmadog area, bit like way back when up in Scotland, at Inverary, lots of sheep farmers discovered the cheap, versatile and comfortable Renault 4.......!  Didn't see Roomsters in farming use, mostly big 4x4 pickups/twincabs.
