No any sound - Canton lower (large) speaker in the front right door

Featured Replies

Does anybody had the problem with lower (large) speakers in the front doors. Yesterday I noticed that the lower (large) speaker in the front right door is not giving any sound - dead... What could be the reason for that? Maybe some wire is broken?! Does anybody tried to remove and then install back front right door panel? Would be thankful for any advice or instruction.

Hi mate, i did have and it was a couple of brocken wires which a soldered back together and all is good now

@Deerjohn, does your car still have warranty? If yes, then safest way would be contacting your dealer and let them sort it out. Most likely problem is with plug but you can never rule out that speaker element is faulty.

If you wish to remove the door panel, then I can give you instructions.

1. Use platic trim removal tool to remove door window switch panel and unplug it.

2. At the bottom center of door panel you can see a plastic nut. Turn it 90 degrees and use flashlight to see if it is in open "state".

3. Under door handle is a hole with a torx bolt that you need to unscrew. Sorry, don't remember the torx size.

4. Use plastic panel removal tool to get free door panel clips. All corners have one and there are few in the middle too. Also one at the center of the door panel. And one near high freq speaker near upper part of door panel.

5. When you have all the clips "unpluged", pull the door panel upwards.

Butting back is same but backwards but search for odd looking black plastic clip on the rear upper corner of door. It gets removed from the socket when you pull up the door panel and remains at the door not door panel. Remove it and connect it pack to the door panel before reinstalling the panel.

And make sure that window switch plug is in place before clipping the anel back. It's a pain to find window switches cable behind door panel just after you have put the panel back and start doing the last thing (putting back the switches panel).

And door panel plastic clips tend to break so get few from you dealer just in case (or from eBay or from local car parts shop or ....)

You should be able to test if speaker plug is loose or giving bad connection without unpluging all other cables and without completely removing door panel.

Verdict is that speaker is dead. Just 2,5 years... Maybe you know what is the part number for door panel plastic clips. There are various types of clips. I am looking for those which are around door panel.

Darn hell (excuse my Estonian)!  The positive is that it should be warranty case and you don't have to pay for it. If you did, I would personally swap them for something better.

What I usually do is ask my dealer service guy for door panel clips. He looks out my car VIN code and searches out the right clips.

They look very much like this and should be same for most Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda current models. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Interior-Door-Card-Panel-Trim-Clips-For-VW-Touran-Tiguan-Golf-Passat-Jetta/292028291854?fits=Model%3APassat&epid=562721827&hash=item43fe3e1b0e:g:FAYAAOSw3v5YovNH

Haven't heared about failed Canton speakers before so I think it is an isolated case of factory defect.

Actually the speaker is made by SONAVOX not Canton.
