Shortened drop links

Featured Replies

Strange question.

I had a new front antiroll bar fitted to my motor, and I always, and still do think the car is not correct as there seems to be bit of wobble on the front end.

When i had the work done about 7 months ago I had new front wishbones, FARB, gaters, track rod ends along with trackrods and also new bushes for wishbones.

I went to check my droplinks today as I was just curious how they were installed and they go from the end of the FARB then bolted the the wishbone. i thought this was a bit strange as iv never seen droplinks connected to a wish bone before.

I have attaced a photo.

Would someone be kind enough to let me know there thoughts

Kind regards

Drew

Most odd. The vRSs had a drop link that connects from the bar to the strut. That looks like a lower model setup?

I thought as Much.

The thing is I stupidly didn't check when I had it fitted and I ordered it from  a web site and it said it fitted my car.

Looks like im going to have to get a new FARB, or used one.

It almost looks like he has put it on the wrong way aroung

It is fitted correctly. Just the wrong sort it seems.

Cheers fella.

So which model is it for.

I guess that will explain the roll of the car that seems worse "great".

Thanks Mankee

To sort that you'll need the following:

  • New (or used) FARB. The 23mm one from a Golf R32 is a common upgrade. If you fit a standard VRS FARB (17mm) then remove the plastic sleeves.
  • ARB bushes to suit FARB choice.
  • Long style drop links. These are sided.

What diameter is your current FARB?

Hi mate.

thanks for the reply. much appreciated.

Im not sure on the size I will have to get under and measure

Am I correct in saying that if say for instance the current one is 19mm then I need to get larger bushes or something along those lines as I need to take up the space where the old spacers, or think they may be called sliders are"not sure".

can you explain please mate

Mmmm.. what you some how ended up with there is half a mk1 diesel front suspension setup..

Yeah im gutted.

I wont be going to that garage again.

They got all the parts for a non vrs, probably because they were a lot cheaper than actual vrs bits. May not have known or cared that the setup is completely different. .

Id probably go with the fact they didt care.

Now my next question is my car is due for MOT. would this fail it do you think. im guessing it would be down to how knowledgeable the MOT guy is and knowing if he know its the incorrect set up?

Thats an ARB from a fwd mk4 golf and drop links to match.

VRS arb doesnt have the hoops over the driveshaft and drop links from the strut itself directly to the end of the arb.

No reason why this wouldnt work perfectly well though, its how 90% of mk4 golf platformed cars are set up

iirc VRS factory wishbones dont have the threaded hole for this type of set up (I could be wrong)

When I fitted Audi TT wishbones they then did have them

Its not incorrect, its just a different way of doing it. Shouldn't have any issue with MOT

cheers fella.

I will say it does sway a lot more in cornering.

So think I will go with the uprated.

Cheers for the info Guys.

The oem short links are also a hard plastic. When i changed mine i got the steel ones and they did make a bit of difference. Not much mind.

The standard setup is a lot more roly poly and flubbery than the vrs, but so is yhe rest of the car anyway, as it doesnt have the same amount of stiffening elsewhere eithere.

i know where you coming from.

mine roled like mad when I had standard. iv got some polybush wishbone bushes that are going on when I get the new FARB fitted.

Then after that Im going to get a rear one.

Not sure which sus yet.

Its going in end of month for a miltek non res catback also.

Ohhhh the new toys ha ha......

get a top strut brace.

Mega difference to the front end

I fitted one last week (tt upper one)

Cant tell any difference at all

You may want to choose what rear anti roll bar you will be fitting at this point, as, if you fit the R32 front roll bar on it's own, you will find quite a bit more understeer present in the rolling chassis until you fit a rear roll bar to restore some balance and retrieve your turn in when cornering.

Group1rs on here had a black octavia that had the mods done to the suspension, and it was a really capable car when used on cross country roads.
