@mrcrow - No, but I did chemistry to part-way through university, and this "useful stuff" has stuck with me.

just like me doing metallurgy and metrology...and loading myself up with "useful stuff" as well

i like to trot it out now and again as i did well in those subjects at the expense of some of pure maths

integration and disintegration being my nightmares...:shake:

really i liked to fix things so after an apprenticeship and getting over the "infra dig" of getting dirty for a living, design seemed a safer and more comfortable to still keep close to the action.

now i have been let loose on my 'obby oss' on UI

lead and tin have certain but differing melting points....butwhen they are alloyed to make solder 60/40....the melting point then is lower than any of the alloying metals....thats a bit eutectic wouldnt you say?..:x shut up geof..:sleepy:

i tried the recycle switch today on a short run...it was 22 outside and i guess warmer inside

the air came through coolish and no window noise

then the little image started to spin

i found out later via the manual that it only works for 15 minutes and then spins and should be shut off

probably only use it sparingly i think

I probably used a cold galvo spray on my daughter's late 2009 Ibiza before over painting them with a light grey paint, like they started life with, trouble with drums in my mind is, they are just a rough cast item so there are pock holes and rough areas all over them and getting crap out of these holes and getting the zinc spray in and then following it with paint is no easy task, so a year or so later they are back to light grey was rusty staining. That task was repeated with a good wire brushing followed by some "proper" rust treatment then a few coats of light grey paint, a year or so later same old rusty staining! I do not intend to spend any more time on making them look like new again!

i agree...it would take decades for the drums to rust out since the rust acts as a barrier to more rust forming...iirc

iron oxide plating??? :x

i do think its a detail too far for me including the act of cleaning the alloy wheels barrel surfaces

i am getting some more clay and carnauba wax soon and will go for bilt hamber

need to get some really good polishing cloths as well...and for once a towel to dry the care after it gets its 'no salt' wash..

last time i left water marks and they wont come off as they are under several microns of carnauba wax

so its a clay job on the roof prior to winter

i waxed the car some time ago and did the rear "bumper"...including the reversing sensors....they were acting funny recently so i cleaned off the wax on the sensors and it ok now...or it could have been water from a recent hose down

quite a responsive car to sensible maintenance

cheers
