Alloy Size, how much does it bother you?

Anyone know does the car's VIN or the groups of 3 digit numbers reveal its factory rim configuration?

Had 16" standard simple design alloys on 63 plate 2.0Tdi Octy hatch. Great comfort and economy (easy 70mpg).Wish I had ordered the 18" Golus purely for the looks and may have kept the car longer. Then 64 plate VRS Tdi DSG hatch had standard 18" Gemini's and ride not bad due to the independent rear suspension (like Sacha stated) but I didn't like the look of the wheel. Now driving the 245 with standard 19" Extremes the ride is definately on the firm side with extra tyre noise but will be switching to aftermarket 18" winter alloys with 225/40R18 tyres for improved comfort, traction and reduced noise (possibly small increase in economy also).

Would it not be one of the option codes on the Vehicle Data Label?  Maybe only if optional wheels fitted.

The 18" Golus do make the car look more up market than it really is. But once inside and car starts moving, that feeling disappears quickly.

I wish I can get 70mpg :( best case I am only getting ~58mpg. Fuel economy is another reason for downsizing.

Vehicle data label? That's the group of numbers in the service book and car bodywork right?

Yes, this is what I'm asking: Whether this label tells you (eg. insurer) that the rims are optional upgraded from the factory.

This might help although last updated 2013 does not bode too well:

I might be repeating some questions here but how and ever...

Is there any 16 hawk alloys or gemeni, sports type ones? Why do they have to be of 18,19?

16 clearly is the safer, more comfortable ride so why not the alloy in that size, I can't find it anywhere?

What would you recommend would be the best size 16 sports type alloy for an octavia?

Cheers folks

Larger alloys does have less lateral tyre movement, make the car turn sharper. Hence why sport alloys tend to be larger.

I've contacted a lot of independent cheaper car dealers with Octavia SE in stock, none are interested in a simple wheel swap. :(

Apart from spending money to buy new alloys and ebay/gumtree my existing set, how else can I get people to swap with me?

I'm on 18" Golus as well. I find the ride a bit too harsh for my liking. Ideally I'd like some 17" rims in black but only way I can think to do this is buy new + new tyres = £ loadsamoney. I knew all of this when I bought it though so hard cheese I guess.

Does a different brand of alloy like say ALLTEC matter on an Octavia instead of the skoda brand alloy??

Obviously the size of alloy is the determining factor but does the brand matter? Will there be any difference to be concerned about?

NO I have had Dezent TD on my VRS and they were fine but have fitted RS6 replica's because I prefer their style to the original wheels, we all have different tastes.

I have Dezent TD for winter also. With aftermarket wheels, you need to check for differences in fitment such as hub flange size, the need for spigot rings to centre the wheel on the hub, and possibility of tapered wheel bolts instead of VW spherical bolts. Not forgetting bigger stuff like offset, tyre and rim width.

No amendments needed by the insurance co if you pick identical wheel size specs set by Skoda.

Had a 2013 2.0 TDi Octavia 3 Elegance on 18" Golus's. It was awful. On typically awful UK urban streets it used to make me wince hearing the thumping and banging, then after hitting a pothole on the M5 (a hole in front of a metal expansion beam on the elevated section near the M5/M6 interchange) and it smashing a chunk out of the wheel I never got 18's again.

My current 2014 Car (same spec) has 17's and is way better. Handling not as sharp, but the ride makes up for it.

My next Octavia is a 1.5 TSi SE Technology and staying on the standard 16's. Yes it won't look as good, will be a bit more squishy, but sadly I spend time in traffic, slow motorways, and bad urban roads rather than belting round fast winding roads.

My mapped 2013 Octavia diesel (186bhp and 317lb/ft) was on standard 16" alloys and without question the best riding Octy i've owned and could still crack 150mph. Absolute sleeper still makes me chuckle.

Stands for HOT Virtual Reality Syndrome!

Well mines on 18" Alaris for the summer and 17" Teron for the winter and whilst the 17's ride OK and the winters grip like the proverbial I am always glad to put the 18's back on for the summer. The steering sharpens up and never had cause to complain about the ride on 18's but I think that is down to the 4x4 and multilink.

Probably should as the vRS got written off in 2011... But I'm too lazy.
