  • Problem is that we have too many PR gurus coming up with slick ( and totally inaccurate ) slogans - "speed kills" is one, Perhaps someone might have tipped off the American space program, or did they

  • Just done the awareness course today. Very impressed with it and as much emphasis was put on issues such as distractive mobile phones etc as speed itself.     The course was a holistic

  • Yes I agree it is.    How can I a responsible extremely safely aware person who loathes everything about speeding, sit there tomorrow, humbled, contrite and regretful over one lapse in a lif

IIRC the news is that the speed awareness courses are to be offered in Scotland for the first time.

In England we've had them for some time - I've only been on one and that was in 2003.

It pays to read beyond the headlines ,some Scottish members might find this an option in the future!

Sorry not totally upto date with all motoring laws north of the border but wouldn't spped up there as views are so spectacular would be enjoying the scenery and not worrying about Plod or the many fixed cameras on the A9.

'Proposals are being considered carefully......'   Then it will be the usual talking about it, meeting, talks and then who wants to make the most as Course Providers,

Any EX Senior Police Officers want to start a company and earn a pretty penny.

Or would it be these doing it?

Maybe if more Driving & Motorcycle Test Centres, Job Centres / Universal Credit Centres, Citizen Advice Centres etc around Scotland in Buildings / complexes near Fire, Ambulance & Police stations and the Government can hold the courses there.

Generally, driving test centres are usually under enough pressure to conduct normal tests. This is one of the main reasons there has been no update to test protocol, making drivers re-test once every ten years! Instead, tests get tougher, to some degree. This in itself is ok but who drives like they did in the test?

I could spot almost all my ex-students forgetting to do blind spot checks, maintaining level limits, leaving safe stopping distances and pulling out into  traffic without adequate clearance.

I hate the speeding gestapo, restricted limits, etc but one by one, we ALL brought this upon ourselves. The thing is, the minority of total ***** will still drive like *****. They may slow for cameras, etc but they still ignore anything that they feel the need to.

As for awareness courses, they are fine (Pun intended) if you want the easy option but if you just pay the advice given, lip service, you will find yourself getting captured all over again, sooner or later. You will only get that option once or twice and only within a certain timescale. Otherwise, its the bigger fine/points route.

The other thing is, the more tech added to cars, the more risk drivers take as they think the car will deal with it.  Nearly a couple of thousand people annually, would like to disagree but unfortunately, its difficult to be heard with six foot of earth covering your mouth!

Absolutely amazed at the number of drivers fly through RED Traffic Lights when I have already braked and stopped at the same light, seems they must be CRAVING THE GRAVE.

Perhaps the yellow vests are more civilised than I thought

Lease a TESLA and maybe you get a NIP in the post and maybe not if the car is speeding and pictured doing so.

The government is very good at making loud noises abut speeding, not so good at enforcement.
Easy to get a camera on a motorway where (in normal/good conditions) speeding presents little harm.
try to get speed enforement in an urban area and it's all too expensive or too hard, lots of hand wringing no action.
We've had dealths now on our 40mph road, proven eveidence of speeding at up to 263%of the limit (105 in a 40), and nothing gets done other than a visit from hi vis plod once every 4 months and they are required to make themselves obvious so only the terminally stupid get caught.

Tuesday morning I had to go out to fix a machine. Left home at 05:30, on the hill leading down to the main road was a pickup truck sitting with it's brake lights on. I cautiously passed it, when alongside it started to move off, then stopped when the driver realised that I was there. At the T junction it was clear, so I turned right onto the main road. As I pulled out there was a car approaching from the left about 200 metres away. I quickly got up to 30 mph, which is the speed limit and very quickly the approaching car was tailgating me. Once we were over a brow and the road was clear the driver overtook, shortly followed by the pickup truck. I would estimate they were doing 35 - 40 mph. About 1/2 a mile later I arrived at the traffic lights leading towards the A3 and who were waiting at the lights when I arrived?
