Karoq side lights

Featured Replies

Hi all

can someone please enlighten me as to why the instrument panel lights go out when I switch on the side lights?

All the needles stay illuminated but all the background lights (rpm & speed) go out.

Ive turned all to max in the infotainment system.

its really bugging me as I can’t see what speed I’m doing unless I have the digital speedo showing.

my car is the 1.5 Tsi Edition model with LED lights.

thank you in advance if anyone can help me

kind regards

Ian

It sounds like it’s the same as the Yeti was, it’s a gentle reminder to put your headlights on as you shouldn’t be driving about with only your parking/sidelights on. Just leave the light switch in auto and this doesn’t happen.

Or better switch on the Sidelights & Dipped beam manually and know you have lights on when visibility for you and others is not good, as long as you check your lights.

Reason being so many must be on 'Auto'  with these cars running about in rain and poor visibility / weather just with front DRL's on.

Why else would they be doing that??

In so glad I didn't pay extra for the Autolight function as it is too inconsistent.

The only way to guarantee you have the correct lighting for the conditions is to do it manually.

The only times I've found it to be consistent is when it is pitch dark at night or when driving through long tunnels. The rest of the time you have to remember to regularly look to see if the Green Headlight icon is illuminated on the dash.

Far easier just to switch them on yourself.

I don't see how?

The 'auto' setting enables the when it's dark, plus the delay in them being turned on can be adjusted AND there's a setting for lights on when it's raining.

It's really simple. I've not had to switch my lights on or off since owning the car.

My auto lights have worked faultlessly it my previous Yetis and my current Kodiaq,  they come on when dark or if the wipers are on, the only thing that seems to catch out the system is fog.

The biggest problem is most drivers don’t even know how auto lights work, and because their instrument panel is lit up, or not in this case, they think their car is perfectly visible to other road users.

The Simply Clever thing is it is not only those that do not know how they work but do not know if they are working.

All those cars going up the road invisible to those coming up behind, lovely Business grey and Meteor grey with no tail lights on.

Amazing how many there are like that out and about, Skoda, VW, Seat & Audi.

Just wondering..

Do Karoqs with LED headlights have LED DRL front AND rear? My Ateca SE Technology in Rodium Grey has nice bright rear DRL because it has LED headlamps.

Why would you not leave the light switch in AUTO all the time. Had to educate SWMBO when I bought her the SEL Karoq back in January.STOP SWITCHING THE LIGHTS OFF WOMAN!

The Karoq does not have lights on at the rear when DRL’s are on same as all models in the Skoda range and almost all other car makes.

As has been mentioned, if its dark enough to obscure the unilluminated speedo, then it's too dark to be driving on sidelights.

I love the Auto setting as I did on my Qashqai (although they liked to turn on in bright sun low in the sky!) but are you sure there is a green light on the dash board as the only green light that shows lights are on that I have seen is on the manual switch?  Am I missing this?

stupra,

Did you have your rear sidelights activated to be on as Day Time / Daylight running lights along with the front ones?

I have bright rear Side / Position lights on my 'grey mammoth', but they are not on with the front DRL's and i do not trust to 'Auto' to be turning on the Side Lights and Dipped beam.

Can't see this being mentioned above but there's a sensor on the rev counter. On other VAG cars I've owned it's located half way between the needle and the 4 o'clock position.  If you look at the binnacle in the sun you'll see a 3-5mm circle that's slightly darker than it's surroundings, that's the light sensor.

Have tyo say my Auto lights seem to work faultlessly, I only have to drive under a large bridge sometimes to trigger the lights.

How about on top of high bridges when there is a haar?

A common Skoda complaint, especially amongst those of us who have been buying Skoda's for several years.

The launch of the MkIII Octavia was when Skoda removed the green dipped headlight 'telltale' symbol on the central dash display. All subsequent models, including the Karoq and Kodia have suffered the same fate.

My current Superb...

As with this thread, some claim it isn't needed, another unnecessary light or distraction, trust the automatic headlight control to do its job.

Others prefer it for reasons mentioned earlier, the automatic system isn't infallible, not recognising fog, getting confused in overly bright environments etc.

In this weather it is easy to forget winter, but I can remember the number of drivers in modern cars driving in low light / wintery conditions with only DRL's.

Sometimes common sense and manual intervention is still required to stay safe. If a little green LED on the dash helps (rather than down and out of clear sight on the headlight switch), then I'm all for it.

my wife's 66 plate Fabia does not have automatic lights, and it does not have the green "headlights on" light in the dashboard.

That's potentially a great example of a worst case scenario then. A double

This area has traditionally been one of VAG's / Skoda's strongest points in my opinion, so to allow a flaw of this nature to get through unchallenged surprises me.

Expect to see lots of MkIII Fabia's being driven this winter with only DRL's on then.

as others have said, the dials won't light up unless the lights are on, so if you can't see what's on the display, that should be a pretty big hint to turn the lights on

If you look up to the cabin lights, there are two LED's, these light up when Auto lights come on, had them on my Yeti

Hello,

No, Ateca's with LED headlamps have LED rear side lamps.  As I say, during the day, front and rear DRL are alight.

They must be on some setting for a country where that is the legal requirement then.

Completely off topic OFFSKI but thought you would appreciate my oil temps hit 103 degrees C on the commute yesterday but the ambient temp was 29.5 degrees C.

SPELLING MISTAKE

My fans were running a lot yesterday & rather noisy when needing to stop, but then i did 450 miles lots of it where there were no average speed cameras and ambient temps were up around 24-26*oC.

Regens happened at stops as well, but then the 7 seater was getting over 50 mpg.   Same thing is getting done again today.  Just sipping ad-blue thanks to VW cheat software....
