Black Edition estate towbar

Featured Replies

Hi all, recently purchased a 2014 Octavia estate Black Edition, and at the weekend a touring caravan. It might seem daft now, but the ‘van was purchased after things like checking towing weights etc, but I spent most of this morning trying to find a local towbar fitter, eventually ringing the Skoda dealership who upon contacting Skoda stated that “due to the lower rear bumper on the special edit I model, Skoda state a towbar cannot be fitted” Aaaaaargh!!!

Has anyone had a towbar fitted to a 2014 Black Edition estate, and if so could you PLEASE let me know what type etc? Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Quite a few threads on this topic lately it seems! It is the same bar, but you’ll need to have a visible cut to the bumper. There’s a BE down the road from me with a towbar and the cut is visible but it’s not bad. If you are going for a fixed one then it’s mostly hidden by the bar anyway. You have to make a cut on all of them, but it’s hidden on the other models.

Thanks Sasha. Any pictures of this cut please?

Sadly not as it’s not my car and it might be a bit weird to take a picture of it but if it’s around tomorrow and I’m passing (and there’s nobody around) I’ll try and snap a shot of it. The bar is always left detached so you’ll be able to see it.

Hi Sasha. Managed to get a local towbar fitting company to fit a detachable swan neck towbar and tuck away electrics and when the tow ball is removed the rear bumper looks untouched. Really, really pleased with the result and the fitters were brilliant. £450 all in too. I’ll take a photo when I can.

Nice one :) It’s all doable, ignore Skoda when they stay stuff doesn’t fit, they say mudflaps don't fit a vRS and you can’t retrofit a variable boot floor yet my vRS has mudflaps and I fitted a fully functioning variable floor...

What about coding ?

Did they do that ?

If you can still use ECO mode whilst towing it hasn't been done fully
