Passenger mirror dipping in reverse

Featured Replies

Has anyone managed to activate that the passenger mirror dips when reverse is selected? I have an SEL with manual seats but I'm pretty sure it can be done in VCDS so if anyone has the procedure for it id love to have it :)

I’ve enabled it with Carista but it doesn’t seem to work!

IMG_0907.thumb.PNG.0fe2fabb133bfd7c4ce76cd14227d24e.PNG  We tried this , but it didn't work. The option to select it on the radio appeared but it didn't do anything :( Was hoping someone might have better luck than me

Do the Kodiaqs mirrors have potentiometers fitted, regardless of whether or not they are enabled?

For a short period of '13 there was a fault with a batch of potentiometers at the SEAT factory so my Leon didn't have one fitted.  I could enable the 'mirror dip in reverse' function with VCDS but due to the hardware not being present, the mirror wouldn't return to it's original position, when moving forwards at the speed threshold.

no idea tbh. It is an option that is available with the electric seats so unless they change the mirrors as well. Maybe someone will come along and give a better answer. Its the only thing we miss from our previous car tbh

The test model we borrowed before purchasing ours had electric 'cloth' seats (it was the S model with loads of extras) and the drivers (RHD) mirror dipped not the passenger side.

Did you notice any adverse effects?

If the Kodiaq shares any coding with the current MkIII Octavia (MQB platform) then it looks as though it might never work properly if electrically operated memory seats were not factory fitted.

It looks as though it can be made to work on lower spec Kodiaq's, i.e. the mirror can be made to dip, but...

- The mirror doesn't adjust down enough rendering the feature useless.

- The mirror won't return to normal by itself, it stays in the dipped position, even after you've reached the speed threshold in a forward gear.

- The mirror does attempt to return, but doesn't know where the previous mirror position was so you have to manually readjust each time.

- It'll only work with the switch in the 'L' position, meaning it doesn't work if you've selected the mirror heating.

It seems cars that left the factory with this feature have a potentiometer fitted in the mirror housing which mitigates against all of the issues mentioned above.

See here...

Try this VCDS procedure, although the poster experienced the issue of insufficient movement of the mirror resulting in him reversing the coding...

we didn't activate bit 2 as the it said not too.

@silver1011 - does your scout have the passenger mirror dipping in reverse??

This is normal behaviour. It is having the switch in the 'L' position that triggers the mirror to dip when you select reverse, so you can't have that and the heated mirrors on at the same time (but I'm not sure that is too much of a hardship).

In theory, yes, but the feature can't be turned on as it doesn't do it and there are still lots of menus and features that remain undiscovered :D

It looks to be standard on Kodiaq's fitted with an electrically adjustable drivers seat, so the Scout should get the feature as standard.

I'll have to check next time I'm behind the wheel...

It was on by default in my car* (unless the dealer set it up for me). Just need to flick the mirror switch to L or R.

*my car has an electric driver’s seat.

Good point, our mirror switch will be in the central position (OCD), so it could be on by default on ours too.

I wasn't aware you could set it to left or right, keen to try it now (if I have it :D)!

It's passenger side only... but of course that all depends on which side the steering wheel is on.

It looks like mirror dipping function has its memory stored in the drivers electric seat controller, hence the need for drivers electric seat for it to function.

It would be interesting to see if the dipping can be programmed individually for the 3 seat memories and/or driver profiles.

If it's the same as my 230, I use position 1 on the seat, Mrs G uses 2. Our setting are different but they go to the relevant settings saved on the buttons.  You can also save the settings Via the remote so who ever unlocks the car their settings are set.

Hope that helps.....

so interestingly enough I never even considered by Octavia vRS might have this feature as well. I'm going to test it shortly.... on it's final drive to the dealership to part exchange it for my Scout :) lol

Yes, it can.

So being curious tested this yesterday in the Sportline... it works as long as the mirror control is set to 'L'... but... I found it just moves the mirror in, not down so whilst I get to see more of the side of the car it's a bit useless as it doesn't show the kerb.

Not that it's a major at the moment as I'm erring on the side of caution as don't want to mark the wheels... looks like I've never tried parallel parking in my life before!  :D

Does anyone RTFM these days? My guess is you've not actually set the position yet...

Storing front passenger ́s exterior mirror settings for reversing

The function for lowering the front passenger's mirror area during reversing can be activated in Infotainment in the menu  /     Mirrors and wipers.

Unlock the vehicle with the remote control key and switch on the ignition. Turn the rotary knob for the exterior mirror control to the position for the

front passenger mirror area » page 83.
 Engage reverse gear.
Adjust the front passenger's mirror to the desired position.
Disengage reverse gear. The adjusted position of the exterior mirror is stored

in the remote control key memory.

There's a manual?

What is this 'manual' of which you speak?

I have it on my 2012 Superb. Where it moves to depends on you. So you have to select L on the switch, and move the mirror to where you would like it to be. So if its moving in, use the switch to move it back out, and down to where you want it for example. I miss that our Furby doesn't have it, and will be upset if it doesn't work on the new Kodi I get on Tuesday!
