Scout with DSG Extended Servicing & Dealers

Featured Replies

Hi! Just bought a used Scout 2018 plate with under 1000 miles on the clock from an approved Skoda dealer. It's the 184bhp DSG version. It's my first ever automatic and I do remember some initial early issues floating around some years back about VWG DSG gearboxes but my question is this..... if I am doing around 20-23k miles per year on this car is it worth getting an extended warranty from 3 to 5 years? Would it cover the DSG gearbox? How often is the DSG to be maintained in it's life as I think there was supposed to be 40k oil change on the older versions? I definitely want to keep this car for atleast 5 years as it has everything I could wish for. I just want it to give me a trouble free life and am willing to pay for this if there are enhanced servicing options. Although..... from prior experience & listening to other owners over the years, I have known dealers to look for and wriggle out of paying for anything when it comes to a serious issue to maintain their bottom line and often blame the customer. Lastly, it's a 'Lookers Skoda' garage where I bought it from (approved skoda)  that is closest to me for servicing but are there any others in Chester, Liverpool, Manchester (Manchester preferred) area which come highly recommended for servicing or with master technician for example? Any information/guidance is really appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome.

Those DSG problems were probably the DQ200 DSG, 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch,  world wide recall excluding Europe, Service Campaigns, 2009-2012  then 2013-2015

& continuing with some now.

It is good for you that this is not an issue with the DSG you have when the correct service intervals are adhered to.

It is not 'supposed to be @ 40,000 mile Oil change'   It is at 40,000 miles on the current wet clutch DSG as well.  So some Dealership staff do not tell owners.

(38,000 miles with a Audi S-tronic which is a DSG by another name.)

3 years or 30,000 miles on the Haldex,  but some at Skoda Dealerships will say 40,000 miles.

Dealers are not the Warranty Provider so read your Warranty T&C's and service to the Skoda Guidelines.

If there are Manufacturing, Design, Material, Software, Quality Control Failings with parts / DSG then it is not for Dealers to reject claims, just to diagnose the faults.

Submit reports etc.

You have 2-3 years before deciding to buy the Skoda Extended Warranty.

If the person buying the car had bought the 2 year extended before car was First Registered that would have been better,

as it is the Skoda Extended Warranty is OK, sadly though some have had DSG failures knocked back, and engine failures, so read up on it well before buying,

Some cheeky barstewards have said ' Known Issues' and rejected Warranty Claims.  The Issues were Known, by VW, Skoda, SEAT & AUDI.
