rSAP & Android Auto

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Perhaps I should post this in the ICE section, but as I have a Superb Mk3 with Columbus I thought I would try here first.

My Android phone seems to support rSAP and I can set the bluetooth connection up as "Business telephone". Telephony works perfectly.

Without a sim card in the Columbus sim slot, I can also select the Connected menu, and see petrol station data, weather etc. And my Skoda wifi hot spot is supported.

So I am presuming the data is being supported through my Android phone in rSAP mode.

The problem comes when I connect to Android Auto. At that point the rSAP Bluetooth connection drops back to a standard bluetooth profile. Telephony continues to work, but the data connection for the hotspot and Skoda Connect menus is no longer active.

If I plug a data sim into the Columbus unit, I can restore the Skoda Connect and Hotspot functionality, but the data is then being used on the Columbus sim card.

Is it the case that Android Auto and rSAP connectivity cannot be used at the same time?

I use Android Auto to link to Spotify and I am warming to Waze as the satnav. But I would like the kids to use my data allowance on the hotspot, rather than using a separate sim card.

(I bought a Three data sim card a few weeks ago and then discovered this week I could upgrade my existing phone contract to 30GB per month for £3 a month more !! )

Is there any other way to get Spotify on teh Columbus unit whilst  using rSAP?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

i normally turn on the hotspot on my phone, Columbus automatically connects to it, then the plug the phone via usb cable and fire up Android Auto.

this way the columbus unit will still have an internet connection through the phone's hotspot.

in my mk2 octavia RS, rSAP mode normally turns off data connectivity, unless u set up a GPRS/modem thingy, so the columbus can act like a modem or something.  i never got it to work back then.

my Superb now doesn't support rSAP - which is a shame.  VW australia didn't want to give us the option to spec the SIM version of the Columbus!!! bunch of numpties!!!
