New 2018/19 Maps

Featured Replies

New 2018/19 maps are available on the update portal.

for those of us that have not had a Skoda before can anyone give an "idiots" guide as to how to update the maps please, always had to get the dealer to do it before so no experience of updating them myself, and I certainly wouldn't trust husband who owns the car to do it, computers don't like him and even if he presses correct buttons they don't seem to work - seriously - even the IT guys at his work can't explain it.

I just checked for my Karoq SE L, which has an Amundsen infotainment system and there are no satnav updates.

I have the Columbus system.

The Amundsen must use a different set of map updates.

Perhaps the Amundsen updates will follow later this month.

Just insert your vin number in the Skoda update portal and it will inform you if there is an update available for your car. There is a how to vid as well, just follow the instructions simples.

The first thing that you need is a fast SD Card of at least 32gb. Then you need to access the update portal and provide your VIN number. This will ensure that the correct maps are downloaded.

The new maps are 24gb and will take a while to download.

I've not done the next step yet of uploading to the car as my SD Card is faulty. I'm waiting for a new one to arrive.

However the next step should be to put the SD Card in one of the SD slots in the unit in the glovebox. The system should detect the card and ask to confirm the update.

In case anybody reading has the Amundsen system, the update is 12GB and fits on the 16GB supplied card (I assume the above poster is referring to  the Columbus system).

No updates for the Amundsen at the moment, at least not with my VIN.

Are the maps for the Amundsen system stored on an SD Card?

The maps for the Columbus system are stored on the unit itself.

The portal says that it can take up to 4 hours to upload. Not sure how I'm going to keep the system switched on for 4 hours without draining the battery.

Yes, Amundsen does not give a notification that the system has 'updated', it simply reads the SD card as required (No hard drive). Checking the version info shows the new map data version if needed. Columbus wise, the update will likely take about 30 mins from a 32GB card. It can be safely interrupted and will resume when you next start/drive. Only navigation will be unavailable until complete.

Thanks everyone for the help, I found once I put in the VIN there were more detailed download instructions my updates say 26.4GB, even with fibre broadband it is going to take over 2.5 hours, my current software on the Columbus says ECE2018 and the new one is ECE2018/2019 plus there are some radio logos to update too if you are so inclined.

I tried this with a brand new SD card to no avail, after talking to my dealer who was checking on how things were going,  I was told to take the existing Nav SD Card out, backup the files and copy the new files onto the SD Card.

Seems to have worked OK and will have a more detailed check when next out in the car.

Updated from ECE1 2018 to ECE 2018/2019

You have to use the skoda sd card a shop bought card will not work

Hi it was certainly not clear in the instructions that this was the case, but thanks for the confirmation. Just trying to get my wifes Seat Leon 2014 maps updated and that is proving to be problematic, even using her Map SD Card. So need to do some more googling to find out how to get her upto 2018 standards.

I broke it and have just managed to restore back to 2014 so panic over and threat of harm removed....

;)

Downloaded the ECE 2018/2019 maps yesterday will try and have a go at transferring them the the SD card the weekend.

One thing I noticed last night when checking what version I had was at the bottom of the screen there was an update SD/USB option ??  Don't quite understand the USB option if you have to use the original SD ?

Anyone else noticed this ?

The USB update is an option for the Columbus system. I think that they simply use the same screens and button names to make life simpler.

Finally managed to update my Columbus system. Took two attempts for some reason but all up to date now.

great news.

I downloaded to my mac the update, formatted sd card to fat and wrote to the card. Input card to sd slot and car said that it recognised there was an update did I want to update and when I said yes it won't work, any clues?

Did you get a read error on your SD card when you tried to update?

I believe Macs leave hidden files on the SD card that the system doesn’t like. You need software to remove these files. I’m sure someone with a Mac will be along soon and tell you what you need.

mmmm......

As a mac user that's not good news !!

With the Columbus system, if I have an internet connection whilst parked up on my drive, is it an easy (or easier) way of downloading the new maps rather than using SD cards? I've had a look on my system to see what updates are available, but there is only a box for the South of England map updates to tick.

Thanks.
