Skoda Fabia common faults

Featured Replies

Hi I'm looking at a 2006 1.2 fabia at the weekend. Just wondering what the common faults/issues are to look out for please.

Is is the 1.2 6 valve or the 1.2 12 valve?

It's important, there's a world of difference.

I am not sure I know it has 3 cylinders I think. Is a htp.

Here is a screenshot of the engine.

General Mk1 Fabia issues...

Console bush failure, but a lot have probably been fitted with improved bushes by now.

Leaking rear washer pipe (has joints along its length which can pop apart).

Water can leak into car from front and rear doors - can be cured by sealing with a suitable sealant.

Rust appearing as the cars are getting old now.

Driver's door microswitch failure.

Window regulators can fail.

Faded plastic headlight lenses.

Rear bump stops rot away.

Blocked plenum drains causing water to leak into front footwells.

General electrical gremlins.

Broken alternator load signal wires.

Broken starter motor solenoid wire.

Anti-roll bar bushes.

Drop links.

Snapped road springs.

All I can think of off the top of my head.

That's a 6 valve engine. Code BMD I expect. Not the most trouble-free mk1 Fabia engine type. How many miles on the clock?

I wouldn't, the 12V is ok, the 6V is a ticking timebomb. There's a reason it's for sale cheaply.

Thanks for the head heads up. I have a fiesta and a 207 to look at as well. Thinking fiesta might be a safe bet. Who knows they all have their issues.

The Fiesta is a better car than the 207, the 16V Fiestas are nippy too and very cheap to fix, just make sure the cambelts been done.
