Traffic Sign Recognition

Featured Replies

Hi all, I’ve just purchased a 65 plate L&K 190 DSG with a few nice extras like sunroof and 19’’ alloys in business grey. It doesn’t appear to have Traffic sign recognition which I would like to have. Does anyone have a rough idea on the cost to program this in. I will give the dealers a call tomorrow if not

Dealers will not code this.

Providing the camera is in the windscreen then someone with VCDS can code it.

Thank you Gizmo, I will go have a look at the windscreen. If anyone’s around Nottingham or Northampton area with VCDS please let me know

Hard to get a good picture but this is the top middle of the front windscreen, not sure if either of these things are the camera ?

Looks exactly like on my L&K, I’m pretty sure there is a camera lens there but I think it’s for the ACC adaptive cruise control. Not sure if that’s the same camera that is used for traffic sign recognition or lane assist, I don’t have those features on my car either.

ACC sensor is on the front grille - behind the gloss black bit.

Ah okay my bad :)

What does the camera in the windscreen look like?

@DrSunshine As you have an L&K you have the camera - it is standard on the UK specification L&K (it's a part of Lane Assist).

You have the hardware for Traffic Assist (sign recognition) so, as Gizmo says, all you need is someone to enable the adaptations (software) with VCDS or similar.

Also, use the VCDS owners map link in Gizmo's post and PM any close to you. You'll only attract the attention of VCDS owners who also happen to own a Mk.3 Superb by asking solely in this thread.

Do you know if the Swedish MY2015 L&K specification have the same front camera? Is it seen in the photo I posted above?

And if it’s there, do you know if traffic sign recognition can be coded in somehow even though the car lack lane assist?

@jaggafredde I stand to be corrected but my understanding is that you need the A5 camera/module which comes factory fitted if the car came with any of the A5 options (Traffic Assist, Lane Assist or Smart Light Assist).

Vehicles fitted with Light Assist (HBA - High Beam Assist) alone have a camera but not the required canbus functions to support these additional options.

The mere presence of a camera does not guarantee that further options can be coded.

That’s a bummer :( I hoped I could retrofit traffic sign recognition. I don’t think this car has any of those features tbh, it was supposed to be fully specced for the first generation MK3 L&K, it supposedly stood at a podium at a store during the launch, but it’s easy for a seller to claim things like that.

And to add to the disappointment, after updating from the 2015/2016 maps to 2018 maps all the speed limits signs on the map for smaller roads went missing. :/

That sounds pretty crappy although Traffic Sign Recognition is not as good as it sounds. I may be able to upgrade myself  but I am not convinced it's worth the expense and it won't make the car go any faster or drive any bether.

Very true, I guess it’s not really needed but it’s a cool feature :)

It would be convenient to have in some cases if you weren’t paying attention to a speed limit change.

I’m currently trying to get speed cams showing on the map, that’s more important... sort of ;)

Maybe as I’m a new user I can’t see Gizmos link to owners with the VCDS,

I haven´t seen a Superb with the "small" camera yet. My old 2016 Superb came from the factory with the A5 camera, and the only option that used it was HBA. I then coded Lane Assist with VCDS afterwards... (Tried Traffic Assist, but as the car only had Bolero, it did´nt work properly)

You can!

The camera can be used for Lane Assist, High Beam Assist / Smar Light Assist (depending on type of headlights) and Traffic Sign Recognition. All can be enabled using VCDS.

:)

But how do I know if the car have the A5 camera? Is it a basic feature that is fitted on all Suberb MK3?

It doesn’t have any feature that require the camera, to my knowledge at least, but I thought the ACC used that camera so my knowledge on this is obviously limited :P

Stuff like this should be retrofitted afterwards at a Skoda seller if it’s just a software activation with no extra hardware needed, for a fee of course. It’s weird that Skoda isn’t jumping on this train. They’re just leaving money on the table for the aftermarket VCDS/OBD2 sellers.

It´s not standard; only if the car is equipped with one of the features, that uses the camera (Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist / Smart Light Assist and/or Lane Assist).

It´s easy to tell, if the car has the A5 camera - it looks like the photo from your post from yesterday at 2:04PM ;)

Interesting! =)

But also weird, could they’ve missed to activate one of those features in the factory?

Right now in this car:

No Lane Assist

No Traffic Sigh Recognition

No High Beam Assist

Without at least one of the three options (from the factory), it would surprise me, if your car has the camera!

It’s difficult to take a photo of it but it looks like a lens in that triangle area. Is that where the A5 should be?

Yes.

Nice! And thanks for some positive thinking, I’ll start investigating how difficult it is to get things coded in now :)
