Traffic Sign Recognition

Featured Replies

As per my post on an earlier thead on TSR:-

Mine didn't have TSR when I bought the car but it's been activated (along with some other changes) via VCDS.

I find TSR useful, but not always correct.  For instance, it can incorrectly pick up signs on minor roads next to dual carriageways and it'll tell you the limit is 30mph when the correct limit is 70mph.

It does usually pick up temporary or motorway VSL signs.  On the Brecon Beacons, the limit past Storey Arms is normally 60mph, but 30mph from Friday afternoon to Monday morning when temporary signs are opened.  Before I had TSR, the temporary limit was, of course, not shown on the sat nav.  It's handy that the limit is shown on the display in front of you as it's not so easy to check when it's on the sat nav.

I went to Lithuania earlier this year in the Superb and TSR recognised the lower limits when it was raining in France and Germany and also in Poland the 60kph limit from 11pm to 5am in towns (it's 50kph at other times).  I'd never seen a no overtaking sign in the UK, but in mainland Europe they're in common use and they were picked up by TSR and it correctly ignored those with a plate below to show the restriction only applies to lorries or vehicles towing.

I've set the visual warning if I'm more than 6mph (or 6kph if using kilometres) over the limit.  It would be more useful if this was a percentage as 6mph over the limit is a less of an issue at higher speeds.  I didn't set the audio warning as SWMBO would nag at me each time it went off!  Not that I exceed the limits, but when it's picked up the wrong limit she'd assume TSR is right and I'm wrong.
