Cancel factory order in favour of stock vehicle?

Featured Replies

So I have a 2.0tdi 4x4 SEL on order, with a constantly slipping delivery date, currently some time in October, but promised at the end of August when I ordered. I’ve paid a £500 deposit on it. However I spoke to a different dealer over the weekend who offered me a stock vehicle at the same spec for quite a bit less, available in a couple of weeks. My dealer can’t find anything similar in stock.

Can I (and / or should I) cancel my original order in favour of this stock vehicle? I had to sign a WLTP form that said I could cancel my order penalty free if the rating changed with the new standards, which I guess is almost a given. Otherwise I will just lose my deposit I guess?

Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciate!

Be very careful.

If the stock car is from Skoda UK then all franchised dealers have access and visibility. If your local dealer can't see it then I'd be worried.

What are the origins of the stock car?

See this thread here, this supposedly brand new 2018 'stock' car turned out to be almost 2 years old with an old specification, meaning it's likely been sat in a field somewhere...

Either way, if the original August date is no longer achievable then you can have your deposit back, its highly unlikely they'll hold onto your £500 for a car which they've no idea will arrive.

An interesting thread! I’ll make sure that I ask all the right questions. Thanks @silver1011

@silver1011 original car cancelled, new scout ready for pickup on 1st Sept - and even better - it works out slightly cheaper! Thanks for the advice. Checked and car was delivered to dealer from factory on 2nd Aug.

^^^ Is this a car that was built before the 1st June which means it can be first registered and sold after the 31st August without being WLTP approved, so a 68 plate?

Or is it being registered as a 18 plate ready for picking up on the 1st September.

I have asked that question, and it’s a 68 plate. They said it was unaffected by WLTP so timing wasn’t an issue.

Great result, and a better car too (although I am biased!)

If unaffected by WLTP that must mean it was manufactured before the 1st June and tested under the old system and being registered after the 31st August under the 'derogation rule'.

@Offski I can’t view that file, but is that anything I need to be concerned about? Or aware of?

Good result Matt, had a similar thing happen with mine and ended up saving quite a bit. Been no problems for me.

Matteds, nothing to worry about if a Skoda Dealer has the car & says it is unaffected by the WLTP which must mean that if not WLTP approved it must be getting

First Registered after August because Skoda UK have applied for the 'Derogation' to allow that.

Yes the link doesn't work.

However a word of caution from me.

Before Kodi I had a Kia Ceed Sportswagen 4tech, registered 11th September 2015.

When I bought it my understanding was that it was Euro 6 as all cars had to be Euro 6 after September 1st 2015.

It came to light fairly quickly that it was Euro 5 and being sold under a derogation. This turned out to be a problem because all the proposed clean air zones set Euro 6 as a minimum standard. Hence why I moved it on and bought Kodi.

Of course nothing I could do as dealer claimed they had nothing to do with the legalities and they had sold me a car that was legal.

All I'm saying is, be careful you're not going to make a decision now that could bite you later.

If I'd had all the information I wouldn't have proceeded with buying the Euro 5 Kia.

sorry, but If the link does not work just type the words into your search engine and the UK Government site will be there for you to open and read.

Goes to here.... http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/legislation/end-of-series-derogation-applications.asp

Although this doesn't seem to have a list of applications or show what's been granted?

I should add to this, I live in Southampton which is one of the cities introducing a clean air zone. At this point it won't look at private cars but I suspect that is next hence being concerned about the EU rating of the car.

The simple question in writing to the Dealer Principal of the supplier of your new 68 plate car in the UK is.

Is the new car WLTP Approved and if so what are the WLTP figures, Co2 g/km and Fuel figures,

or is the car not WLTP approved and was it built before the 1st June and being First Registered after the 31st August under the Derogation Rule?

They either know or do not know or can give an answer to how and what is happening.  No point asking a Car Salesperson unless they represent the Dealership or Supplier and can be held responsible for any Coc-k ups.

Although that would only matter if you really needed or wanted a wltp approved car. If it makes no difference then it doesn't really matter. I just wanted the op to be aware that there can be unseen ramifications with derogations. Although unlikely, if MOT legislation was changed and based around the concept of cars being wltp certified by 1st September 2018 and this was used in emissions testing..... It could be a sticky situation.

IMO none of it matters other than finding out if they know what they are doing and the 68 plate car is going to there to collect on or from the 1st September.

For those not buying a keeper but leasing or financing and handing back a car so not one that they will own in 3 years or 5 years even what has anything to do with anything really!

Huh? Don't really understand!

Simples, if you are only renting a vehicle and not owning it then what does it matter about testing 3 years on.

What matters is your renting expense and running costs, fuel, servicing and if you pay the VED in the time you are running it.

True. Although OP is not renting he's buying.

So I just wanted him to be aware of my story so he can be fully aware.

Remember that MOT level testing is nothing like approval testing. My 2012 Superb used to get a smoke test 'not able to read' because it was so low compared to the MOT limits.

If I’m honest I still don’t really understand this.

If it is being sold under this derogation rule, how would that affect me? I am not planning on keeping past 4 years as it’s on a PCP.

I guess it puts me in no worse a situation than anyone who has one already? Or is it an issue that it’ll be a 68 and not graded by WLTP?

If PCP it doesn't really matter. There might be issues with future value or not emissions (purely speculation) but it won't be your problem!

Life's too short. The rules and regs around fuel consumption, emissions, MOT, vehicle excise duty and the effects of Brexit change more often than I change my underwear.

Buy from stock for instant satisfaction, or hunker down for a factory build to your perfect specification.

In all honesty, if it's a PCP and you've no intention of keeping it I'd be looking at non-VAG options, take another look at the Kodiaq next time.
