Bump from old Reviews - rattle problem

Featured Replies

I've had a think,& from what you've said I think your rear seats are chattering. I've had it in the past where it sounds like it's outside of the vehicle when it's in fact been the seats. It's quite common on the later Octavias & Fabia's to a certain extent when they're driven regularly,& of course our well maintained Fenland roads help a massive amount in creating creaks & rattles(I've replaced more suspension components since I've been back in the Fens than I care to mention!)If it is the seat it's quite a quick adjustment, but we are fairly stacked at the moment so it's probably best to book it & hang around for a few minutes but be prepared to leave it just in case it's a longer one ,either way I'd like to hear the noise now as I'm quite intrigued.

Yup, I do believe it's the seat. I've had the offside rear seat forward and there has been some paint removed from the metal loop that the seat clips on to. It also looks a bit out of shape, if you know what I mean. Is the normal remedy to bend it back or something rather more technical??

Cheers for any help - I don't have time to book my car in at the moment

It's usually a case of tapping the relevant catch part down using a medium hammer with a couple of light blows, although I had an Octavia once where it needed knocking sideways. It sounds like yours is catching from above though due to the marks. When I worked for another brand, they had a major problem with this re-occurring again & again on the same vehicles. The eventual outcome was that we had to apply a 'Vaseline' like white grease to the contact areas as part of every service which seemed to cure it? So if all else fails?

or some electrical tape around the loop!

I think the fact that the loop is out of shape is allowing some back and forward play on the catch - this is what is removing the paint I think. I'll try a large screwdriver through the loop and bend it to somewhere comparable with the nearside one.

Other than that it will be k's insulation tape remedy.

 for the help, guys!!

I have a 02 plate 1.9 TDI Octavia which I completely squeak free, except for the MOST annoying rattle emanating from the rear offside. Any way, I stumbled upon BRISKODA and this thread that confirmed what I thought it was, the loop of metal that latches the rear seat shut. Now normally I would not take a hammer to a car (well not my car) a couple of swift taps to bend it down a little and no more rattle. Top Work. It would seem that the rear seat fold down was actually resting on the latch rather than the pin at the bottom of the seat. I am happy now, thanks

It's what we're here for

Still have to wield the hammer on mine...

I have paint scratched off of my loop too, I only bent it by about 5 mill' and it did the trick.

Still have to wield the hammer on mine...

Sounds like a job for Big K :D
