Why do people keep posting "What size Torx is $fitting?" threads? I've got 3 sets, and I got something like 5 - 50 step 5 Torx and star (both 6 and 12) fittings in all of them, and have never been stuck for the "right size" except when I needed smaller bits for access!

I guess because they do not have 3 sets.

Want to know so use the Forum to ask. Simple and free.

Can save people attempting to undo a fastener with the wrong size or type of tool.

Doesn't cost anyone anything except the OP's time asking, and the responder's time helping.

@Offski - I think you've misunderstood my point. A, say, Torx30 is always the same size, but I have sets of bits that are varying lengths. Sometimes I need a longer or shorter bit for clearance, or to reach down past other parts.

Probably because you didn't mention length of the bits in your original post?

 

"Smaller" doesn't automatically imply shorter - i.e. length.
