Space saver wheel

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what size space saver wheel I need, finding it difficult to determine which one is suitable for my vehicle. Studs are 5x112 and the wheels are 18".

You mean the reserve wheel in the boot? It should be a 125/70/18.

I went for the 'full size spare' option of 205/55/16 about £75 brand new with tyre from mytyres (choose your own tyre but i went cheap nankang as not directional)

All wheel options here

No. The official Skoda spacesaver spare for the Superb is a 205/55/R16 on a 6x16 rim.

Does the 205/55 R16 fit the boot space allocated for it. Can I also ask, would either be suitable whilst towing a caravan if we had to?

Yes I can confirm a 205/55 16 fits in the space allocated, it's what's under my boot floor

Does a 3.6 make a difference? ... :D

I got the 7inch wide rim as per the previous link and it being the primary size option for the 16inch

Fits in my boot wheel well of the estate no prob.

NB - When I first came to swapping tyres (summer to winter) I discovered my spare wheel assembly (which includes jack etc) didn't include the tool to remove the wheel nut caps - ebay helped out here for a very small sum!

Well, I've heard that its not the size, its how you use it.   :mmm:

Seriously though -  it might make a difference. I think I read a post here that said the brake/caliper size on a 3.6 would not allow you to put on a 16" steel wheel.

I think the discussion was about snow tyres and 16" wheels but I'd say the same size problem would rear its head.

No chance of a 16", I have issues of taking off the 18" without scratching the brake caliper metal-thing protection (plate bit) ... but, the huge calipers serve the purpose - when needed, it is like you've dropped an anchor form the car ... :D

Whatever the size of the wheel the outer circumference is still about the same (bigger wheels = lower profile tyres) , the problem may be if the wheel is much wider it might stick up above the boot floor. To be sure take a wheel off and try it in the wheel well.

@bigjohn - I was replying to thew following when discussing the brake caliper issue (preventing the smaller diameter rim to be put on my car)

But I'm suggesting trying the v6 actual wheel rim for size to see if it fits  (not the 16" size) the outer circumference should be the same but the wheel may be wider(deeper than wheel well)

Thanks for the reply but I'm still having a headache over this. Have found an unused spare wheel 205 55 R16 6,5Jx16" ET 46 on eBay off a 2016 Superb, not sure it is suitable because the part number for this is different to the one for a Superb ll (205 55 R16 7,0Jx16 ET45. Is there a massive difference or will it be okay.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. The 3.6 needs at least 17" on the front axle.

It shouldn't make any real difference, especially since it's for emergency use only. The main thing is that the bolt pattern is 5x112 but it should be if it's from a Superb 3.
