Maxidot only shows Range not Current Speed

Featured Replies

I have a 2016 Octavia 1.4 TS SE DSG, with the Maxidot controlled by switches on the wiper stalk.

Last week I stopped at a supermarket for 20 minutes, and when I returned to the car I found all the driving data from Start/Long-Term/Refuelling all set to zero, the time set to 0:20, and the Maxidot showing the Range.

The Maxidot usually shows the current speed, but now it only shows Range.  I can use the switches to change to other types of data (Phone/Audio/Driving Data etc.) but when I select Driving Data it just shows Range.  How do I get it to show Current Speed?  I've tried pressing the stalk buttons to get other options but they have no effect once Driving Data is selected.

On mine, hen on the driving data section, you move the thumb wheel on the right up or down. Mine occasionally changes to  instant fuel economy when starting the car.

"you move the thumb wheel on the right up or down. "  - That's the thumb wheel on the steering wheel?  I don't have that, only the switches on the wiper stalk.

You should try looking into the settings in your infotainment (Car 》Settings 》Trip computer). You have the option to tick what you wish to have on your Maxidot and what you don't (oil temp., speed etc).

You have no controls on the steering Wheel?

I thought all Octavias had the steering Wheel controls for maxidot & for the stereo volume/track/etc?

The MFSW wasn't standard on all Octavias in all countries.

If no steering wheel commands, then they are in the right chalk, on the outer side there is up and down, and below should be one button to press with the thumb. UP, DOWN and SELECT is enough to go through the options.

Yes, that's what I would expect, but when Driving Data is selected, it doesn't offer any options; it just displays the Range, and the UP/DOWN keys have no effect.

paulsoava, thanks for the suggestion; I'll double-check the infotainment  manual.

Then in this case, as Paulsoavas suggested, check the infotainment as there is a list of items which can be displayed in the Driving Data section & a check box next to each to decide if it is visible or not.

Hopefully its just because none of the options are selected & they can just be reactivated

rjenw4,  what did it show the current speed as before it disappeared, was it in km/h or mph?

I was in France, and had set it to show km/h for speed, which I found very useful with frequently-changing limits in France.  I'd had it set like that for a week or two before this happened.

I've followed the instructions in the Infotainment guide, and have unset everything except the Current Speed display, but it still persists in showing only the Range (which curiously isn't included in the options in the manual).

I've also tried switching back to mph instead of km/h but that doesn't affect the situation.

One factor that I haven't mentioned is that I keep getting "oil service now" messages because the garage that did the oil service forgot to reset the service settings.  Perhaps that is affecting the Maxidot.  Anyway, I shall go back to the garage and get them to sort it.  Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have a similar problem on my Fabia Mk III (but without the oil service now message).   Did you get it fixed, and if so do you know what they did, and roughly how much it cost?
