warning lights glitches

Featured Replies

We had a couple of tyres fitted to my daughters Fabia 1.2 yesterday (Bank of mum and dad etc). The fitter got a bit panicky as the ABS light came on and it wasn't on during the drive there. On quizzing my daughter she nonchalantly remarked..."oh yeah, its comes on now and again, but it always goes off again".......and then said.."And now and again all the warning lights come on, but they go away if I stop and re-start the car.......and once the speedometer stayed on zero, but came back again"

This is the daughter who ran it out of oil a year ago leading to our first big fall out in ages...need I say more. She has been a lot more vigilant since then about the oil I have to say.

Anyway...I'm assuming/hoping I've got either an earth or a multiplug that could do with checking out. Can anybody tell me any likely culprits as one day they won't go out and the car will stop. She only gets to see us once every couple of months so I have 'book' time with the car as it were.

likely to be the earth on the abs module. mine kept putting all dash lights on until restarted and i cleaned 2 earths below ecu near abs pump, and re fitted them nice and tight. never came on again.

Sometimes the multiplugs on the back of the cluster make bad contact. It's fairly easy to remove them, spray some contact cleaner on the pins of the cluster and into the multiplug holes and refit.

Also could be bad solder joints on the printed circuit board. The two joints marked here are the immobiliser joints but any of these solder joints can be bad...

That 32 pin connector is under the dash is it ? How do I get at it ?

Thanks for all the comments by the way, very helpful. Next time I see the car I shall have a nosey round.

It's on the back of the cluster. The cluster is very easy to remove.

Pull this trim off...

Lower the steering column to its lowest position. Remove the two T25 Torx screws and ease the cluster forward at the top and pull out enough to get at the plugs.

The green plug has a lever that you have to swing upwards to release the plug, and the black plug on the

left has a tag that you have to pull sideways away from the plug.
