Mechtronic unit

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a Skoda Octavia, the manufacture warranty ran out in April.

the mechtronic unit in the gearbox has gone wrong. Do you think I stand a chance getting a good will gesture from Skoda tonhelo foot the £2,000 bill?

thx

Welcome.

There might be.

More than a 'Goodwill Gesture' & 20% of parts or such nonsense should be your aim though, there is faults with MCU's.

But best say what engine and DSG you have.

So is it a 1.6 TDI CR with a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch that is from 2024/15 so might have needed Service Campaign '34H5', a Software Update?

Was there a Software Update carried out, or were you told your DSG did not require it.

There are threads in the Mk3 Octavia Section that might interest you.

And others in other Briskoda sections.

There are know issues with the DQ200 DSG, and Skoda / VW knlw about the known issues as they created them.

Manufacturers Warranties are 2 or 3 years depending on the country sold in, but the product if faulty is going to be covered for longer than that in the EU and some other world regions.

If the issue is with a 6 or 7 Speed wet clutch DSG, it must also be of merchantable quality and manufacturers can not just shrug their shoulders and say fix it yourself and pay up.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry my blog was vague it’s my first time writing on a forum.

my Skoda is a 15 plate, 1.6, 7 speed dry gearbox. I have never heard of a update required. I took it to a gear box specialist in Dartford who tried to fix it by changing the solenoids but the car didn’t take. So now they have to order a new Mechatronic unit from Germany costing £1,600. The cars been off the road a week already and I am having to hire a car in the mean time. I am being told it’s a 10 day turn around once part ordered!

For goodwill you will also require a full main dealers service history.  Without this even if the system showed there is goodwill for this fault on your car. You wouldn't be entitled to it 9.9times out of 10

Thanks Adrian. Appreciate  your message

No probs.  Goodwill is checked within the dealers now. It used to be done through customer care.... I mean it can still be done this way but they dont like it. They end up calling the dealers to get them to do what they should have done at 1st and is to check on the system

Right so it sounds like tomorrow I need to get to the bottom of weather my car needs this 34H5 software update and go from there. Cheers guys

DQ200 then and as George has said.  Best to check if it's had any recall work done and what transmission fluid is in it, as that was a known issue.

If it's been looked after at garages that should be expected to know and deal with such matters, then there may well be a case to answer if any campaign work was overlooked/omitted.

As Adrian has said, any missing service history will seriously dent your chances.

Worth reading up on the DQ200 issues.  Consider also liaising with Trading Standards - if you bought after the SoGA, then the CRA might stand you in better stead.

Gaz

PS: I might be imagining it, but wasn't the DQ200 the subject of a pretty big customer campaign over in the States?

As i said it is not about 'Goodwill'  and the Servicing was not required to be done on the car by Main Dealers as there is no Servicing of the DQ200 DSG.

But without being at a Main Dealers you will not have been told about '34H5' started in 2017,  there was no 'Recall'  just some owners got a call saying There is a Recall'.

Anyway having had a Non Official Repairer touch the DSG / MCU you have stuffed yourself up on the fact that Skoda / VW produced DQ200's with issues 2013-2015 and had to come up with '34H5' because of Pressure / Heat issues and MCU failures and leaks.

Either way u need a skoda dealer to confirm what is wrong with the car. They will not go by another garages diagnosis.

See the thread i just bumped on the Mk3 Octavia Estate that would not go into reverse.   Sorry i could not link it.

If you need to see the other threads where Skoda UK have had to 'Assume the position'  because of the Fundamental Faults, Design, Materials, Software or Fluids with DQ200's from 2013-2015 there are ones in various BRISKODA Sections.

It is not Goodwill, it is Corporate Responsibility because they Co-ck3d up.

Is it out of the 3 yr warranty?

  • Author

Yes April

  • 1 year later...

Hi, sorry to resurrect this old post, but I would like to let you know that I have the “fix” for these mechatronic units in the dq200 boxes,

most will lose the car actually going into any gear,  the start of the problem usually is a spanner flashing in the dash where the gear selected number is , then you will see what seems to be an oil leak under the passenger side near wheel ,

so now I believe every single gear box made for vw,Skoda, Audi and seat from 2008 until at least 2015 will fail,

I have now repaired 7 cars with my part , I actually started selling the repair part for around £250 as I came across it after I could not afford to have a gearbox Centre fix a dsg golf 2011 plate , they wanted £1800 , so after much research and taking a gamble I managed to fix it myself! so if anyone needs a cheap perminant repair please get in touch I can help

if you managed to get the codes read , p17bf , and p189c with play protection, are the most common ,

according to Skoda and vw the car needs a new mechatronic unit for the sum of £2500! Odd, what a load of waffle

anyway you guys with warranty’s are lucky , I don’t think I have ever owned a car with a warranty

@alesypalsy

Skoda must now have manufactured in the region of 3 million DQ200 DSG's for application in over 28 models, what leads you to believe that 'every single gear box made for VW, Skoda, Audi & SEAT from 2008 until at least 2015 will fail?

Any figures on the failure rate, 2008-2012 when there was a World Wide Recall excluding Europe, or how many before or since the Service Campaigns, 2008-2012, & 2013-15?

There are issues, there are Recalls again in World Regions, there will be Civil Actions, but 100% failure rate would be a bigger scandal than the 11 million vehicles with Defeat Devices.
