Hello

I've been thinking of changing my factory fitted cassette player on my 2004 Skoda Fabia and I want to keep it looking as original as possible. However stupid question but does anyone know if I can just simply swap out my cassette player for a CD player that I can buy from a donor Fabia? Without having to make any drastic changes to the wiring loom, etc. (basically is it a plug and play install)

Thank you in advance.

It should be. Standard ISO loom means the Symphony single CD may be installed with little fuss. The main thing is ensuring that you get one with a valid code.

IMO though, if you look at the prices of Symphony single CD on eBay  get something like THIS instead.

Can then use either USB storage or phone storage or phone for streaming. Not quite OEM but comparable on price, quite easy to install and way more capable.

Would also need an aerial booster but those are cheap.

Thank you for that information, that'll definitely save me a lot of headache when I come to install my replacement stereo.

@Damo1997 - Or the Symphony radio-cassette head from an Elegance or L&K supports a 6CD stacker.

Thank you Vindaloo I am certainly considering one of these myself. Do you know if it's a straight fit or would it need anything else?

I got the KD-X330BT a couple of years ago.

  • Get a trim piece of fascia replacement from Skoda or Autoleads or Connects2.
    • Skoda OEM - 6Y0857231B41 (Try your local dealer).
  • A very minor faff/worry about wiring and securing the aerial booster (reiterate: need to buy one).
  • Bend the supplied cage out of shape and then back into shape to get it in the hole. (This is quite usual for pretty much all aftermarket stuff).
  • Oddments tray "spines" on top got caught a little on the cage and then because they were rough, they needed trimming (and ISTR I covered them in stout tape to prevent a recurrence.) before it would all fit back in.
  • After fitting you'll notice the top lip of the oddments tray exposed a little, as the front is curved. A bodge of filler and paint would fix it but I CBA.

Other than that, going mechless means a very light and shallow head-unit leaving oodles of space behind it for the mass of wiring. I run mine with a tiny 128GB USB attached permanently.

Thank you so much. Definitely something worth considering. Much appreciated
